Saddle Pad

I looked at these, but the suede one's are better, as you have more grip.

I got one off american ebay, which is lovely sheepskin underneath and suede on top.

I used to ride my TB ex racer in a folded up blanket with a leather surcingle - he was too uncomfortable to ride bareback without and didn't have enough mane to hold onto either!

I have a BestFriend pad. I got it a good few years ago when the cob mare I was sharing had saddle fit problems. She and I had a blast with it... my first time riding bareback and I felt like a pony club kid, having a great time. We even did (for us) moderately challenging jumps :). The grab handle is certainly useful for yeehah moments, although the texture of the pad (it is manmade "suede") is pretty grippy, and it has a grippy underside, so it really doesn't slip. Keeps your seat nice and clean too. And the best bit... it goes in the washing machine and comes out looking like new! Comes with it's own grippy material girth too.

I have used it on my own horse, but he has withers, so it was never such a good fit. I believe you can get a BestFriend pad that's cut for horses with withers, but I ended up splashing out and buying one of the scarily expensive lambskin ones :o
