Carrying on the current topic.

What do you use underneath your saddle? Any why?

I have currently been using PolyPads although the last X times I have ridden they have disappeared backwards and I am now rather close to banishing them to hell ... so I am back to my nummed square

Thanks

Mattes or Eskadron dressage pads - only one's with nice high withers that don't slip on my lad

Personally I hate Polypads - never had a saddle / horse they've not disappeared backwards/slipped down on withers on however high up you pull the

Using a thin dressage saddlecloth and a half pad on alisha at the moment as she has no muscle from being off work for seven months.
Jigsaw is at the local college at the moment and they generally use polypads although they are quite worn now and do tend to sit off the withers.

I used to always use a Polypad - still do for XC sometimes - but my boy has quite high withers so on saddlers recommendation I got one of those Nu-Med (?) saddle cloths for high withered horses - not one of the ones with sheepskin, the 'ordinary' type. Fits really well

i use numed ones-ne with fluff under for dressage just as it had it..and a foward cut close contact one for jumping:)
then i have a HKM cheapy taupe coloured one to go under my dressage and another numed gp

I have a nuumed ProPad which has straps at the front so DOES NOT slip - love it.

Then for competing I normally use my propad or nuumed sheepskin, but it really depends on her weight - if she's having a slim day, she'll have her nuumed sheepskin with another numnah underneath - for XC I use two numnahs or just my nag-rags one.

Mark Todd Dressage pad for everyday under both my saddles, fit my jump saddle as well as they do the dressage saddle! Then Numed high whither for comp, though will replace those with Mark todd ones. Jump saddle always has a prolite pad under it and dressage has Prolite although am getting a wool half pad for it

The boy is a bit cold backed so I generally use one of those lovely thick sheepskin saddle pads with the gel bits in and I treated myself to another one without the gel bits in. Works well in both although I'm moving from a narrow to medium fit saddle to a wide fit. I also have the pro lite pad which works ok and I have a white saddle cloth which I only really use when competing to make him look posh

I have nuumed white squares with fluff for out competing... however I seem to have collected rather a lot, far more than I'm ever going to need! And then nuumed black saddle shaped fluff ones for at home.

ETS: they are high wither ones too!

I just LOVE the stubben GP numnahs, they have the most wonderful backing (the side which contacts with the horse) which seems to absorb sweat (up to a point). Cottage Craft do one very similar but it shrunk badly in the wash (at 30 degrees) so I can't use it any more. The Stubben one washes beautifully and I want LOTS more of them but they're not cheap

I have a selection of german made saddlecloths (and an inches one) that I use on Gov. The ones availible at my nearest tackshop are just rubbish and not stiff enough to stay in the gullet and not slip around. They wash much better than english brands too.

I've got a JW sheepsking underneath at the moment too as he has lost a bit of muscle.

Just use standard saddle cloths (saddler said not to use anything thicker). My favourite is a white requisite one - the straps are long enough/in the right place, it fits well (doesn't move/pull down) and it washes up nicely (surprisingly it's still white).

I'm using a thorowgood high wither numnah in black and red at the mo... I also have a white thorowgood gp saddlecloth for dressage... But my all time fave are the nuumed ones... I have collected a few: two half lined numnahs (need the fluff she's sensitive), two blue saddlecloths for the big round one, and a white dressage saddlecloth... (though I don't have a dressage saddlecloth at the mo...
Oh and I have a lovely disney embroidered one with my first ponies name on it.... never used it

sold him (still in my wardrobe ten years later)
Thats my numnah collection for my two... Few too many I think...
Can't beat a good nuumed...
Oh yeah I forgot about the polypad... makes a good dog bed

On my mare i use a stephensons half pad with a very thin saddle cloth due to saddlers reccomendation.
My gelding has a mark todd dressage underneath his dressage saddle and a nuumed hi wither forward cut underneath his jumping saddle all wash up really nicely

Polypads all the time, mine don't seem to slip? I've tried others but I don't like them. Might try the Numed one though after I have read this thread.

I use comfort zone airflex saddlecloth for both jumping and dressage, she dosen't seem to sweat under them, they never get heavy, and because they are made up of lots of little hexagonal shapes, they move freely with her.

I use a Polypad and think they are great. I bought one becaise it has no straps on it and was finding that where the straps are sewn into a normal numnah...it was rubbing my horse. Have had no problems since the Polypad and it does not slip either!

I got some shires ones but they are too short for the saddle flaps... have a couple of brightly colured Joules ones and they are the best quality out the lot... albeit a bit 'bright'....
