Can anyone recommend somewhere or something I can buy to pad my dressage saddle out a bit at the back??

It has been fitted by a very good saddler but still tends to be very slightly off his back at the back when I put it on (think this is due to the first girth strap coming out of the front block and pulling it ever so slightly forward) I have prolite saddle pads etc and these wont work as the pad the withers as well, I need nothing on the withers just something to pad out the back a bit.

Am considering sewing something into a numnah!!

there is a riser pad that has removable padding front and back pads can be changed cant think who makes it now?!

Talk to your saddler first as sometimes for good reasons they fit the saddle like this. When my youngster came to me she had been ridden in a really poorly fitting saddle so had 'dips' under the back of the saddle area. My saddle fitter deliberately fitted the new saddle so that her shape could re-adjust. It has worked extremely well. I'm not saying that this is the case in your instance, but it would be worth checking before doing anything about it.

no there isnt a reason she has done her best to pad it out but she suggested a riser at the back for him, especially as he is so aware of his body and a sensitive TB!!

Can you post pictures so we can see how far it is sitting off the back? Also a picture of his back without the saddle to see the shape?

There are a variety of pads out there - wintec and prolite to name a few. Ingatestone usually has lots in stock.

Id get back onto the saddler and question further about this. If its already rising on its own by putting a pad under the back to 'fill in' the space you may end up pushing it down firther onto the wither and shoulder.

To be honest if its not sitting properly then it doesnt actually fit!

No... id def go for a prolite over the wintec ones.... if you are really desperate just used a folded towl or teatowl at the back...

But Def agree that you should have a saddler look at it if its not right.

The annoying this is I have had a saddler look at it!! A very good one at that and for £50!!

So I hope it is bl**dy ok!

I will take some pics tonight

don't wish to critise your saddler

but did they check with the combination you use of numanhs/prolite, with and without grith done up. Then without weight? and then you in saddle??? moving???

i would phone and have chat and see if they can re-check and of course for either reduce fee of free?

Yes she checks it without a cloth with teh pads I use and with the girth done up and with me on riding in walk trot and canter! When I sit down it is fine!

And I dont need anything to pad the front out at all over the withers

It isnt moving from side to side or anything, but when I put the saddle on it sits up off the back at the back by about an inch ish

if it's not causing damage or rub patches, nor sore back. I would happy, as you've had saddler out plus, your use a prolite pad which are brilliant for cushioning....

If pads are moving back, i would sew saddle loop so i couldn't go back...

On one of my saddles, saddler recommend a fluffy half pad just to help with support?? so offically i'm not a fashion victim

Lots of things can make the saddle rise up at the back, which is why Ia sked for pics of the back and also with saddle on.

If the saddle is too wide in front, then it can make the back rise (the saddle is now pressing on the withers and the cantle is in the air). However, if the girth strap arrangement isnt ideal, this can also happen. Also, the shape of the horse's back can come into play - some horses are built very downhill. It may be that the flocking needs to be adjusted rather than pads.
