Does it matter if the saddle looks to small for you as long as it fits the horse and is comfortable? I wonder if it looks small because the one I used with my loaner was quite large.

Basically it makes my arse look huuuge (well huger!)
 
If it really is too small for you it will probably push you to the back of it, which will in time cause the horse discomfort or worse. A saddle needs to fit the rider as well as the horse.
 
A smaller saddle spreads the rider's weight over a smaller area, but if the horse can't take a bigger saddle then this is how it must be. It's not necessarily a problem, unless its uncomfortable and makes you ride badly. If the saddle only looks small because the saddle flaps are shorter than usual, this won't affect the pony at all.
 
Thanks for the replies, he is a big horse, I am sure he would take bigger, it is the saddle my potential new boy will be coming with, he has a rather petite owner!

Bums, was hoping not to have to buy a new saddle :(
