the lady i'm getting my new boy off didn't have a saddle with him but gave me one that she didnt use any more, i actually thought it would be an ok fit for pop and pops saddle would be a good fit for new boy. so i tried it on her today and it fitted ok and she was comfortable in it, rode her in the school and all seemed ok.

but as it did on new boy it looks a little perched on the top when someone isn't sitting in it?? but fits really nicely for width what do you guys think??

oh and a couple of us bareback cause i just love my little girl :D

it was super windy couldn't get her to stand square so she looks a bit weird

HIGHLAND! Welcome to the club of HHO Highland Appreciators :D You must be a Scot, with that username, surely?!

Agree the saddle doesn't look "right" to me either...

I'm no saddle fitting expert but doesn't look right to me either. I get the impression that it looks like it would go right up her neck quite easily, & pony fit aside it doesn't look the best fit for you. Cute pony though!

Id deffinatly say its not a good fit, hard to tell from pic but looks like its too low at front and tipping you forward. cute highland

She's also bum high which doesn't help, its a thoroghgood griffin saddle, cut back really far at the withers (of which she has none lol )might just sell it me thinks

i'm thinkin that a wintec may be a good option for new boy till he loses weight cause his shape is going to change as u native owners will kno, and then get his a nice shiney stirlingshire one nxt summer??

What a beautiful pony and clearly very loved! The saddle does look rather perched on her back and maybe a little too forward also. I wonder if she would be better suited to a saddle with flatter panels at the back which would distribute the weight a little better and enable the saddle to sit a bit deeper? She`s a lovely looking lady with a very sweet face though carrying a fair bit of condition which will alter the fit of the saddle.

I have the same issues with my Highland but have finally got a saddle made for him that actually fits and allows for greater movement through the shoulders so that he feels much freer. I was amazed by just how much difference the saddle made to his way of going - and feel guilty that I didn`t realise sooner!

she has her own saddle it was just curiosity getting the better of me with this saddle i was given by montys old owner lol!! its a very strange saddle :S poppys own one is actually a native showing saddle so is very small and cut quite straight so allows her movement in her massive shoulders.
yeh she is a podger and a high risk lami after last year unfortunatly so is on a super tight diet much like she has been since i got her 9 yrs ago always struggles to shift it.
she went on loan about 4 years ago and came back to me like this
fatpoppy.jpg

after the woman who had her completely ignored all my instructions regarding her diet.....u can imagine my reaction when she stepped off the box

OMG, sorry but that is vile - you can see she's a lovely mare under all the lard, but that is a disgraceful condition for her loaners to allow her to end up in

Did you lamp them? I think if she were mine the police would still be looking for bits of their dismembered corpses

Wow. People really are quite ignorant sometimes aren`t they? Good job you got her back when you did. She does look a sweet thing though - what`s her breeding?

i was livid!!! i sent her away with all her diet needs and gazing muzzles etc.....her excuse was she wouldn't be able to defend herself in a field with other horses if she wore a muzzle???
didn't take long to get that massive belly off her once she came home thank god, got her back into my routine!!
this year we're back to feeling her ribs again tho which is a lovely feeling!! just that bloody crest will not shift!!

shes unregistered, her mum was aparently from islay called either whiskey or whisper, searched for years for her breeding but never got anything back :(
dont mind tho she just my super safe reliable steed :D

Aw, she does look lovely though! She reminds me of a Bowmore pony I know but I can`t for the life of me think of his full name. This is going to really annoy me . . .

I know Bowmore is a distillery on Islay. Well, I think it is! Are you on any of the Highland Pony forums? They could be a good place to try and find out some more about her.

It looks like a Griffin high wither?

The front is too high (and will be the complete wrong shape: panels too deep and too close) but the rear gusset is FAR too deep for her (it's designed to balance up a wither-high horse) and tipping it up.

Basically doesn't fit at all!

Agreed - the cut back and deep rear panel make me think its a high wither TB style tree, totally wrong. It is perched, which could make it roll, and cantle high which will place more weight on the front of the saddle than the back. With croup high horses you often have to fit a very flat tree and panel but in a shorter seat size, keeping away from that tricky area behind the saddle :D.
