Saddle question?

I'd get your saddle fitter out to see what they can do.
Mine managed to fit a 17inch saddle to my 13.3 New Forest mare, but she was very long backed and it fit nicely.
I wouldn't do it without the saddle fitters say so, or you could damage the ponies back.
 
You need to get a fitter out. 16" refers to the seat size and not the length of the supportive panels which vary in size even on saddles with the same seat sizes.

This. Yes always need a saddle fitter. So many know it all on yard say you do t need one they can do it. But even a pony costing £50 needs a few hundred spent getting things right for it.

I do help people on my yard fit saddle as I worked with a fitter BUT all I do is say whether it fits well enough to get a fitter out
 
Agree with everyone. You really cannot tell what size saddle will fit a horse/pony. I've seen 17hh Warmbloods only fit into a 17" saddle.
Get a good saddle fitter out and they can advise

the inch size on a saddle is the seat length so some horses can go half inch bigger or smaller but the rider also needs to be taken into account, the width of a saddle is the most important factor for the horses size as 16.5 inch saddle narrow fit will be no good for a pony that needs a wide, best solution is get a fitter out to fit one properly.
 
Saddles vary hugely in length, what you try and save in saddle fitting will cost you in other ways in the long run. Read around as much as you can to educate yourself as not everyone gets on with all saddle fitters, you need to know how a well fitted saddle should look ideally. And yes, panel length can vary hugely. I have one style of panel that I fit regularly that on most horses fits 1" shorter in the footprint than another saddle with the same seat size on the same tree.
