Guys I'd be really interested to hear your ideas of what would make a saddle horse (the stand you put your saddle on when you clean / store it, rather than a wall mounted rack) really ideal for you, eg height options, storage, metal or wood, and also what you would do with yours eg do you stick in in the lorry when you go out and about, leave it permanently in the tack room. I'm doing a design project and may end up producing a prototype so may need some 'testers' for feedback later.

ALL suggestions, no matter how small, greatly appreciated!

Many thanks xxx

i've got a wooden one with a shelf underneath (cupboard or drawers would be better though) and the top is a V which can be turned through 180 degrees, so will cradle a saddle so the underneath can be cleaned, or saddle can sit on top of it. it's about 4' long and lives in the tackroom all the time.
i think it's pretty much ideal for what i need.

Ours is the same as K's but it's about 8 foot long so enough space for 2 or 3 people to use at once. The really annoying thing about ours is the shelf at the bottom is wider than the top IYSWIM so when you let the stirrups down, they catch on it. It seems to be the exact height that most stirrups get caught.

It is useful having a shelf there though to balance washing up bowls/buckets full of water to use for tack cleaning. Just wish it was about 6" narrower so the stirrups hung down next to it. There is also room underneath to stash boxes full of boots/1st aid kit etc.

Needless to say, at that size, it stays put in the tackroom.

thanks Kerilli and Milliepops - great info, just what I need! x

Anyone got any photos of theirs? It would be SO helpful, or links that I could follow up online.

OK, excuse the mess - this is our big one. The other one has a narrower shelf and the top comes off so you can turn it upside-down, as K described.

Bit rough & ready but does the job

I use one of the small tubular ones which OK is light and doesn't take up too much room but WHY OH WHY do they only have 3 legs and not 4. Constantly tips over when you are trying to clean a saddle on it, drives me mad!

We have the wall mounted tubular racks for storing but always put a numnah on it first otherwise I don't think they are good for the underside of the saddle.
