Hi everyone,

My horse is a 16.1hh Friesian gelding and I am looking for a good saddle for him. I was first thinking about a Wintec VSD but havent seen many good reviews about it...

Can anyone recommend one that isnt expensive? breeder suggested Albion or Kieffer but am a bit skinned after buying my boy recently.

Any advise please?

Thanks!

well i have no idea mine is a second hand saddle and i love it. its a bit big for paddy but i have a nice poly pad under it as i know he will be filling out.
i just wanted to say hi as a fellow friesian owner.
how old is yours?

Hi ibot,

mine is 4 and a half years old and yours?
yes the stable offered to fit me a second hand dressage saddle. Maybe I should take up their offer?
I just dont want to buy anything expensive as well because they said he will grow ( muscle wise ) and i dont want to spend lots of cash on a saddle now that wont fit anymore in 2 months time...

thanks Lou.
yes I would always have someone fit them for me, either a saddler or someone from my stables.
i will have a look at the thorowgood ones!

ha mine got 4 in april too. :-)

i got mine a couple of weeks ago. yes I cant believe it either.
:-)

what are you planning to do with him? just general riding or dressage too?

we have a young freisian on our yard and shes had heck of a trouble with saddles. she has now got a wintec pro dressage as the knee blocks keep her secure in that big bouncy trot. She also got the cair system as it is so easily adjusted. Shes had this saddle 3 months and done three months of good schooling and hacking, saddler came out last week and he has already gone up a gullet size! Not a problem as they are so easy to adjust. I would def go down this route if i got one.

Cair is not easy to adjust. Flocking is so much better.

I wouldnt have thought that a wintec had panels wide enough for a friesian back. I suspect he is high withered with a flatish back? best thing to do is probably call a saddler who stocks some synthetics (I would look at at thorowgood hi-wither) and also some second hand saddles and see what they have that fits.

hi CBAngelo.

yes he has a flat back. not sure about high withered though.
The owners of my stables have apparently fitted him a second hand saddle this afternoon. I will check it out and possibly have the saddler check it too.
