Well, my 12.2 section c has now completely changed shape and her saddle (that was never the best fit anyway, but was fine with a sheepskin) does not fit her at all now she has lost some rolly off her poley and developed a topline.

This pony has no withers, a massive shoulder and isn't the shortest in the back (not long, just not short...), she is fairly flat-backed now too. She doesn't have a problem with slipping so much any more, as she has lost some podge, but everything seems to sit up off her back, I had an american jumping saddle that was ok, but now is tight at the shoulder as she has muscled up. The main issue for me is the weight bearing, because of her shape, she is all up the front end, the saddles all seem to bare the weight over the shoulder.

I'm not spending a fortune, as she is up for sale, but the people that come to try her would probably like to ride her :P. Ideally it would be a synthetic as she is ridden by a small adult, and the less weight the better (girl is a wisp, but I feel bad :P).

I'm resorting to borrowing off a friend at the mo, so any makes you would particularly recommend for the pone?

Excuse the essay, coke and chocolate orange cake for all!

Thorowgood are really good for this sort, and if u know what size seat and width fitting, u can get second hand ones off ebay for 50-100 quid.
They are the older models, but still good saddles and they're English made x

echo Thorowgood, very good for flatties esp the cob ones with the 4th 'breeching' girth strap, helps to keep the saddle in place on flatties n fatties.

Wintec can be ok but T'good better made IMO and Wintec trees too banana shaped for many flatties. but try both.

I use a Barefoot treeless saddle on my very rollypoley cob. BUT with a brillient girth called the flexi-girth. It doesn't need to be overtightened, and it has really made a difference!

Throwgood do a cob saddle made especially for this type of pony/horse.
Wintec's I would avoid like the chuffing plague. A horses back is not banana shaped, so why on earth would you want a saddle with a banana shaped tree?

My old barrel shaped section c had a thorowgood.

From experience I've found generally that thorowgood suit cobby types and wintecs tb types. I've got a wintec for the current horse and love it.

I've got a Saddle Company for my v wide cob - fits her beautifully. Bit more expensive than a synthetic but maybe you could sell it with her? I'd have paid a bit more to have a saddle that actually fit my mare when I bought her! Can pick them up 2nd hand on ebay and they're v adjustable...........

The little welsh a I used to ride had an ideal saddle but I'm not sure if they will be a bit out of you price range, might be worth looking for one second hand then selling on after you sell pony.

Thanks guys, I HATE wintec with a passion, especially for things that have any form of shoulder, and yes unless your horse is sway backed, they just don't fit, especially the older ones!

Have got an old thorowgood, it's such a fab saddle, the cut is lovely, was used on the racers when they were at the yard. It's a medium/narrow though so obviously doesn't fit. But I will try and get my hands on one for the little porker as I think they are good saddles anyway!

Thanks guys, helpful as always!
