Think it depends on how big (or not) your bum is!! What size is your current saddle? Not sure how you would work it out other than by sitting in them. I have a 17" saddle and it 'fits' us both fine but tried a 17" isabell and felt really uncomfy. ...
Ive got a 16'' saddle on Bear, 17'' fits him but he has quite a short back, and 16'' is plenty for me, I can ride on a 14'' and just about get away with it.
ATM she has a 17.5'' close contact saddle with a very shallow seat . Put I didnt specifically [sp] go out and but it because it was 17.5 it was just what fits her .
I've seen a dressage saddle I want (and need urgently) but its a 17'' and I wondered it there is a method
Your height would be 5 foot 4 or smaller and you are of a slender build. If you have quite long legs for your size or a stocky build, go up to the 17.5" seat size.
17.5"
Your height would be 5 foot 3 up to 5 foot 8 with a slender or medium build. If you have long legs for your size or a stocky build, go up to the 18" seat size.
18"
Your height would be 5 foot 6 up to 5 foot 11 inches with a slender or medium build. If you have long legs for your size or a stocky build, go up to the 18.5".
18.5"
Your height would be 6 ft. plus with a slender to medium build.
19"
Your height would be 6 ft. plus with a stocky build.
But if you have a short backed horse then an 18" wont be suitable. It also depends on the saddle as i wouldnt fit a 17" in one dressage saddle yet MY dressage saddle is a 17"... A saddler would be able to asess you and your horse and provide the right fit!

That can't be right. I'm 5'8" and sometimes ride in 17" saddles (not mine) with no probs. I do prefer the 17.5" though.
My saddler says in a dr saddle you will prob need 1/2" bigger than a flat jump saddle. This is because the dr. saddles are deeper seats. It depends on loads of things though!! I had a 17" on my cob as he couldnt take any bigger and I'm 5'7 and have rather large legs, but in the words of my saddler no arse!! Have a 17.5" in both saddles on Goddy, he couldnt really take any bigger as he is short!
