Right getting impatient now.........was looking for a 17.5" dressage saddle (horse can't go any bigger than 17.5" as will be too long for her back), but keep finding 17" in make I want..........sooooo as I think a 17" saddle will be fine for my mare (17.5" in her absolute maximum), what I'm wondering is will my bum fit in a 17" saddle!!!!

I'm 5'3" and size 14

So what size dressage saddle do you ride in and how big are you???

5ft 7, size 14 (but trying to shrink) and use a 17.5" saddle.

Have tried riding in OH's 17" (he's a skinny minny) and my bum gets stuck and I feel blocked - his is alot deeper seated than mine thuogh

I'm 5'6", normally a size 12 but at the mo nearer a 14 I guess (bloody post-operative fat!) and my saddles are 17.5".

I don't think that helps at all though

well im a size 16-18 and i have had to get in a 17.5 when really an 18 would be better but it doesnt seem to make any difference to me, it will depend on what type of seat you go for as to how it feels and how broad it is , sitting on them is the only way to tell really

I am 5'7 size 10-12 and mines a 17" Ideal.

Some makes of saddle do come up slightly bigger & smaller than others

I am a size 14, but I am 5'11 tall. I need an 18 inch saddle. As others have said, seat sizes vary tremendously with saddle manufacturer's. The Keiffers have really big seats, loads of room for your bum.

Im 5'4 and size 10, and Pip has a 17inch, which really is slightly long for him, and the little boys have 15.5 inch one. I do fit in 15.5, just

.
I guess on a horse that could take anything I'd probably want a 17.5 inch, but I am trying to get a 16.5 as a compromise for me and P.

I'm 5' and size 16-18 and ride the Moose in a 17.5" Black Country saddle that is hugely comfortable. I did consider an 18" saddle, but it would really be too long for her, and her comfort is first priority. I've also lost quite a bit of flab off my bum from when i first began riding her. Black Countrys have very roomy seats, though, and i think i'd have been swimming in an 18" saddle now.

I'm 5'7 and a 12-14, and a 17.5 in my albion dressage saddle and 17.5in my Ideal single flap jump saddle, although I also jump in a 17" barnsby jump saddle which fits me perfectly (in my saddlers words, I have a small arse and big legs!!

I'm 5ft7, size 10 and have a 17 inch saddle, which sadly is the max for my mare, would probably be able to squeeze down to a 16 if I had to,but have really long legs do wouldnt be able to!! Rode a friends arab in a 16 inch and the seat was ok but my knees went about 4 inches over the knee rolls. I do love bigger saddles anyway.

Im 5.9 and im a 12/14 on a skinny day(!) my Fusion jumping saddle is a 17 - should really be a 17.5 to fit me but horse is incredbily short coupled so my pannels are extra fwd cut for me instead, plus the seat is pretty much totally flat - hate bucket seats!. On the other hand my Barry Swain dressage saddle is an 18 incher and I loves it

I am size 8ish and 5ft3 - Albion jump saddle 17" and Albion dressage 17.5" but the latter is a bit too big but it is a second hand saddle and the only one that fitted the horse so I got it anyway. Don't think it makes a huge difference.

5'6" size 12, 9 1/2 stone, my 15.3 mare cannot take bigger than a 16 1/2 inch saddle. I do fine with my Falcon (mind you it a WH saddle as the only thing that fits the girl.

The seat size depends on how flat or deep the seat is, and also the length of your leg from hip to knee.

So someone who is a size 14 but very short might feel better in a 17" than someone who is a size 14 and tall and feels better in an 18". Of course you do get rather large people trying to squeeze themselves into a 16" pony saddle which I think must be so uncomfortable.

The larger the saddle and therefore panels, the greater the weight bearing area, so it does matter if the horse is in a too small saddle (all the weight concentrated at the front) and if the saddle is too long (weight on the loins).

If your horse really needs a 17.5" and so do you, then I would wait for a 17.5".

I have a 18" Falcon Event Saddle for my mare. And im a size 10 and 5"8! For me its great as I have long legs so when jumping my knees can stay neatly tucked into the knee rolls. My mare is only 16.1 but it looks fine one her.

Im 5ft3 size 12/14 and I have an 18inch kings. I love it as it has a nice deep seat, but has a enough room for me to get back in the rare moments I find myself jumping. Horse is a big 16.2 TB so it fits him well too.

my 17.1hh has a 18.5" saddle, it is too big for me to be fair as I am 5ft 7 10.5 stone ish. But dad and RS clients use it as well and dad won't pay for two saddle for my benefit!!!

I'm 5'6'' and use a 17'' saddle, my horse is 16 hands now (he's grown a little) but he's really short coupled, I'm a size 10 and theres bags of room on my saddle...and my ass is not exactly small neither

! (but its not a dressage saddle, just a GP).

I have to have a 17.5 as I am long from hip to knee.... any smaller and my knees go over the front of the knee rolls
