I am 5 foot 2 and ride in a 17 1/2 inch saddle. Does this seem too big? It fits my horse just fine, and I feel more comfortable in it than in a 16 1/2 or 17 inch. Someone just told me that 17 1/2 is too big because I'm so petite. I weigh 7 1/2 stone.

Any thoughts?

If it fits your horse and you feel comfortable in it then don't bother listening to what someone else has to say unless they're a qualified saddler! Not every person or horse fit the same size.

What loopy pony said. Also, there will always be someone to tell you something is 'wrong' as long as you have horses!

Depends on the length of your thigh aswell. So if you've got quite long legs you will find a bigger saddle easier to ride in.

As long as you are comfortable and the horse is comfortable, it doesn't matter what size it is :)

Thoughts?......... they are interfering in something that is no concern of theirs & should mind their own business, if the saddle fits your horse & you are comfortable in that saddle then what's to9 change? I'm a great believer in ' If it aint broke, don't fix it'

There are too many people offering unsolicited advice about things that much of the time they know nothing about. Don't let it concern you. :)

It's unusual, that's all. I always ask for height and weight before going out to a new customer for a saddle fitting, and I'd ber very unlikely to bring you a 17.5" unless you specifically asked for one. For a showing saddle I might, if a judge was going to ride and I was sure the horse could take it. Women ride in proportionately larger saddles than men in some ways because we do have long femurs relative to our height - I generally prefer to accommodate that with a more forward flap, but a bigger seat might work.
