Could anyone give me some advice please... My gelding is 16.2, his GP saddle is 17.5" so i guessed i was looking for a 17.5" dressage saddle only, but ive been told that because i am small, i could get away with either a 17" or 17.5".

I know its only a 0.5 of an inch but i cant help but think a 17" would look too small for a 16.2 warmblood? Considering a friend of mine (is the same build as me though) has a 17" for her 14.2 cob??? And a 6ft plus friend has a 18.5" saddle for a 16.1hh...

So is the 16-17 or 18" and so on normally just the size of the seat and so for the riders bum only? Not so much for the horse?

Any help please???

when getting A saddle fitted you need to consider both you and the horse. it is importnat that you are neither spilling out of the saddle or swimming around in it as this can effect ballance and effectiveness of the aids. it aslo can change the length of the saddle flaps which support your legs. too long and your lower leg will not be effective on your horse. to short and your knees will spill over the knee roll especially with a dressage saddle. you can try different makes of saddle as they can come up different sizes and shapes. you should get a propper saddle fitter in to make sure you and your horse are comfortable. remember an ill fitting saddle can do a lot of damage so get it right and don't worry about a saddle looking to small on your horse believe me it wont.
