I can't decide if i should sell my lovely event saddle or not. I bought it about 8 or 9 years ago for a 15.2" horse i used to share but she sadly had an accident and died before i really got the chance to use it on her. :-( Its in pristine condition. My Youngster will (hopefully) make 15hh so was wondering if it would be ok to hang on to it until he is big enough? I suppose it could be re stuffed/fitted for him if need be as it has only been used a handful of times and was fitted for her at the time. Whats the verdict and how do you measure for a new saddle anyway? When the time comes i will get him properly measured but wanted to know your thoughts.

It really depends on the type of horse. You need to check that the gullet is wide enough, a lot of saddles have interchangeable gullets and headplates nowadays, I'm not sure if one that is 8 or 9 years old would have..?
However, the key dimension with saddles is the length, the back of the saddle must not go past the last rib on your horse, My horse is quite short backed and has a 17" saddle. However, you need to be a size 6 or 8 to fit in a saddle smaller than 17" apparently! (which I'm not!)
I don't see any problem with holding onto the saddle in case it fits in time - but you could take it to a second hand shop, and see how much it would be worth, you might be better off selling it now, and buying a new one when the time comes.

Unfortunately there is no way of knowing if this saddle will fit, unless you wait. Reflocking may or may not be enough to make it fit. If they are the same type, etc, it may fit once maturity has been reached.
There is certainly no harm in keeping it and waiting, but you may be better off selling it and buying whatever fits best when you need it.
