So I had my saddle checked when i got my horse in september 2010, he is rising 5 this year (birthday in may) so saddle fitter advised 6 month checks. In february i arranged to have saddle checked and he said both saddles still fitted.

Physio out two weeks later commented he was tight behind saddle and asked to see saddles, she thought the jump saddle was slidding too far back and could be causing tight area. Saddler out again and he said they did fit and advised to use breastplate for faster work.

Yesterday went XC schooling with a breast plate and got off twice to adjust saddle! feel it just isnt sitting where it should - is it too wide? Both saddles are bates so could go down a plate size? Originally saddler said the forward cut flaps on momentum were being pushed back by his shoulders as dressage saddle didnt slip so much. However it is slipping too! He doesnt have a big girth groove as he is a 16hh TB and doesnt carry much weight, ideas on a postcard?? Dont know who to trust or what to do next?

Thanks :)

I'd get a different saddler (preferably personally recommended by several happy customers) for a second opinion. If he's tight behind his saddle then it doesn't fit properly and needs something doing! Does the physio have a recommended/trusted saddler?

Havent asked the physio who she uses but that would be a good idea - thanks.

Should of mentioned that the 2nd saddle fitting was done by a different saddler as first one didnt even see me ride in the saddle!

Dito with the try another fitter ! Our TB is the same sounding as yours but we found an excelent saddle fitter who got a lovley leather 2nd hand one for a great price that fits like a glove :)
Also with brestplates how about a 5 point competition one for the most security? or add a gel-ezze pad too?

had thought about a gel-eze, only using a hunting breastplate at the moment so will consider a five point. Very aware breastplate should only come into action when needed and not an essential to keep saddle in the right place though but thanks will look at them too :)
