The saddle on my little pony keeps slipping forward!

It fitted perfectly during the summer but as she's become a little rounder (not having as much work) it constantly slips forward! Anyone used a limpet saddle pad (or a cheaper alternative?!) with sucess? Thanks!

Same problem! How many girth straps does your saddle have? I'd try a more forward girthing arrangement and see if that helps. I'd also defo use a girth with no elastic - the humane ones are pretty good.
When I posted about this almost everyonw recommended the barnsby grip pad and either a professional choice girth or stubben string girth

Saddle generally slide forwards because they are too narrow - most horses get narrower towards the shoulder so that's where the saddle goes if it's too narrow.

Forcing it to stay back will just give her a sore back

You're choices are either to have it made wider (depends what make it is - many can be widened) or ride bareback until she's slim again. Now winters well on it's way she should slim down pretty soon. Putting a thick pad under it as 'cushioning' will not help!!!!!

All that does is make the saddle even narrower and the problem worse.

Hi

I have the same problem with my little pony. She lacks any form of withers bless her! I have a point strap on her saddle which hasn't made too much difference, she has a girth with no elastic in it. But the best solution has been her crupper. I have had her in a crupper for years now. She been shown with it on too and nothing has been said about it or been told to take it off. You can get a crupper from the likes of Robinsons for about £12.

This is an ongoing problem with my TBx with both my side saddle (fitted and customized by a master side saddler) and my astride (also fitted by a qualified saddler). She has ling withers, narrow shoulders, a forward girth groove, a bit high crouped and a big barrel! Bascially, a saddlers nightmare!!!

I've tried a limpet pad (didn't make a blind bit of difference except to add more bulk under my saddle), a specially made curved girth designed for forward saddler slippers (helps a tiny bit but not much), Barnsby grip pad (helped a tiny bit but not much). I have to use a Stephens gel -eze pad at the moment along with carpet grip stuff and that does help to a certain extent except for "bumpy" rides like jumping or cantering in fields.

I don't fancy a crupper as I don't like the thought of my 13 stone body + a saddle (a side saddle weighs even more than anormal saddle!) being held by a tail.

I'm seeing the saddler today to see what else I can do as it's ridiculous how my saddles are going. Shall post my suggestions he makes!
