So my lovely ID x Welsh mare was backed in February/ March this year in a racing saddle with no problems at all. She then came home and my saddle fitter suggested a 16/16.5” adjustable thorrowgood. She is 15hh but quite short in the back! She was hacking beautifully, happy to take the lead etc. Took her in the arena 2 months ago and she had a bucking episode which I put down to her napping as neighbours horses suddenly appeared at the fence and she was trotting round the short side. Took her for a hack a few days later with a friend and she erupted 50m down the road and I managed to get her on verge and do an elegant dismount and saddle had slipped right forwards onto neck! Just did ground work for a couple of weeks, refitted saddle with wider plate as she has put on weight and muscled up! She’s been hacking out for last few weeks and no problems but took her in arena last week and was only walking when she started bucking again and saddle slipped forwards!
So obviously saddle doesn’t fit and is causing issues! Back to ground work! My saddler is brilliant but doesn’t really stock second saddles and I don’t want to pay out for a new one when she’s going to keep changing shape!
Any ideas for good saddlers in Staffordshire area who stock second hand saddles?
Or do I turn her away over the Winter, then get saddle fitted in Spring?
