Firstly a bit of background info.
Bought horse sept last year. She came with a wintec isabell. I had it fitted to her but with a sheep skin pad under as she was quite underweight and ribby. It never rubbed or seemed to cause a problem. Since this time she has grown both upwards and outwards, however I have still always used either a sheep skin pad or a prolite under it.
Had physio out about 5 weeks ago and she was sore just at the back of the saddle area however there were no rubs and ridden wise it didn't seem cause her a problem she was just a little tight, physio looked at saddle and advised to get it checked.
Local saddler was out the next day - an old fashioned saddler who hates synthetics but who was happy to change gullet and pop some more flocking in. It felt heaps better to ride in straight away and he advised that it fitted fine with just a thin cotton saddle cloth under it.
So hacked her out in it a few times and noticed she was getting sore behind the saddle again. I bit the bullet and bought a new saddle. I bought a WOW which was fitted to her by a WOW fitter last week and she rides beautifully in it. Like a different horse.
I picked the WOW up nearly 2 weeks ago and just before this I noticed a small lump that had come up towards where the back of the saddle is. It looked like a blister. Since I noticed this I have only ridden her 2/3 times just to get new saddle fitted etc.
On friday the lump had got bigger and seemed to be fluid filled. Vet came out and thinks its a haematoma caused by the old saddle.
He has advised bute for a week, plus I am alternating icing it and putting anti inflammatory gel on it. She is not lame and I am still lunging her.
Has anyone had this problem before and if so how long did it take to go down? I have loads planned with her over the next few months and wonder if I should start cancelling things!!
How is it best to treat it?
Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.
