Hello

Would appreciate your ideas on the minefield that is saddle fit ahead of a fitting & thinking of trialing some from one of the online stores ahead of this so that I have more options.

My lovely TB needs a new jump saddle I think…I’ve had him in a WOW until now, with a curved tree, I think he would prob need a semi curved and there is no fitter in this neck of the woods, so looking at flocked/other options.

He’s fairly chunky with moderate TB withers but quite straight through his loin..he also has some more topline to gain.

I’ve been looking at Loxley and Ideal T&T adjustable saddles, but also heard good things about the Ideal Impala Pro on horses of his type?

Anyone using an Ideal T&T on this type of horse…they seem to come in one tree type…do you get enough either clearance with them? Loxley come in different tree profiles it seems.

Saddles are so stressful! Would appreciate your thoughts even though I know it’s a topic that’s been done to death!

Keep working on the topline from the ground, it makes saddle fitting way easier. It sounds like what you actually need, as he doesn't sound that farr off a relatively normal shape, is a recommend fitter who covers your area.

Thanks. Yes, have spoken to a fitter, but limited options around here and none carry a broad range of stock, hence the question. If anyone can recommend anyone in South/south West Wales that carries a range of saddles & brands then please do.

Interested in what saddles you’ve found useful with horses (of a TB-type profile) as the gain muscle…he’s by no means a hat rack but he will bulk up some more. Especially any experiences/comparative experiences of Loxley/bliss & ideal T&T (can’t find much out about the latter, but they look like a reasonable option), have they allowed you to stick with the same saddle as the horse has developed (obviously with the input of a saddle fitter…), or did you end up changing anyway?

In my experience, IF, and that's a big if, the saddle is designed and fitted in such a way as to truly benefit correct balance and movement in both horse and rider, then the horse has maximum two tree widths' change before a different tree or panel.shape,.or both, is needed.

I personally think more flexible saddle or even a series of used saddles, are often a better option. And proper postural groundwork which is rarely seen/done, the opposite to using a Pessoas etc, and pretty different to generic hill/pole work. Carrying a rider straight off makes it harder to get back lost topline/fascial compression.

I've owned 2 TBs that have done well in a Wow saddle, my older (rip) TB had a GFS monarch jump, the older model which was one of the most comfortable saddles to ride in and he went well in it.
