Ok,

So I am going to get a new saddle, now with Sandy I plan to do a small bit of local showing, dressage (maybe affiliated if I have the time!), general hacking and a teensy bit of jumping.

So firstly what style of saddle would you say? I don't know between GP or Working Hunter, which would be best for the purpose?

Also I like brown tack, plain brown is alright but I really like havanna.

Here are two colours that I like (top one is my favourite):

Would you say go for one of these colours, preferably the top one, or go for the safer plain brown? How hard is it to find a matching bridle for the top colour would you say? Would dressage judges mind? Would it look good?

Decisions! :o

I think that the colour would go really well with my horse (in sig!) :D

What do you all think? :D

Those are both versions of Tan, really, though the first might be called "light Havana". They're both a little bright for showing to be honest.

You are somewhat jumping the gun though, and your first question is the best = what sort of saddle? I think a WH or VSD sounds the best option, though some GPs are neat and straight cut. In fact the model I sell most of is a neat GP which a lot of people use for showing, especially WH at higher levels, but even on the flat at low levels. Many GPs and even VSDs are considered too bulky for showing, but many judges won't really care. Another popular model I fit is a WH/dressage and if you can find one of those then that may be ideal. It may depend on how short you like your stirrups :)

The most important factor is what will fit your horse, then you, then you'll know what colours those saddles come in and can choose from the range offered :)

I think a straight cut GP or VSD would suit, you're pretty much describing what I plan to do with my horse. I think Havana is the dark 'boring' brown isn't it? My saddle is Havana and would be quite suitable for showing.

Those two are a bit jazzy really although I also like the lighter browns and tan and would prefer that given a choice (although my horse is a bit orange for it!). Can't imagine anyone doing dressage or showing in the second one but its you and the horse that really counts I guess!

I have seen a few bridles in roughly the colour of the top one, usually described as 'oak' or 'chestnut', I think John Whitaker do them.

If you want a lovely new saddle - I'll PM you with a suggestion. Two years ago nothing would fit my cob, we'd had every saddle fitter in the district and still no joy - yet their saddles fitted like a glove.

My yard-sharer also changed her two ponies to theirs; yesterday we kitted out her child's riding pony plus my loan mare.

Anyway, I'll PM you.

They always seem to have that colour in a grackle, I suppose because those colours are more a showjumping/eventing thing, they do this bridle in normal as well though...

I quite like the two tone thing, and I do think tan will suit your horse, very striking! Unfortunately you're more likely to end up with black or Havana unless your budget is endless!

I would go for a darker brown for showing both are a bit light, I think the darker brown will suit him better too, go for a working hunter style saddle which is a bit straighter cut, black country do a nice one or Ideal Ramsay or Flyde all do nice saddles for showing.
