I hope this doesn't break t's&c's - sorry if it does admin!

Basically I (stupidly) bought a bates saddle a month ago as I wanted a leather saddle and my wintec is a perfect fit - I therefore assumed that bates would fit too. Initially it looked great so I was happy to ride in it until I was able to get hold of saddler. In this time the flock settled in front and saddle started to lift behind.

Saddler reckons tree is the wrong shape for him and so I need to sell it. Is it worth puting it on the likes of ebay? Its only a month old so in great condtion.

Any thoughs re value? :(

Saddles are going for very little on ebay just now.

Will your saddler not buy it from you ??

You could also put ads up in your local tack shop or put it on the likes of preloved.

XxX

i always thought/presumed Bates were on the same tree as Wintecs... hmmm... that's useful to know. (*slaps own hand for making such presumptions*)

bates sell well on eBay though i'm afraid you'll still lose a fair bit! poor you! could the saddle fitter take it as a part ex? x

p.s. try preloved and ad-trader too. they're free to advertise. eBay take SUCH a lot from you when you do sell.

With my cynical head on here: you bought the saddle from a.n.other shop and your saddler from whom you did NOT purchase it says the tree is wrong but that the Wintec is fine.

Is that right?

Which Wintec do you have and which Bates have you recently bought - also need that to give an idea of value:)

oh you cynic you... (me too - but only cos i thought the two trees were the same)

:D

Hey guys thanks for your replies - yes thats right! Wintec (flock) is a great fit, but bates (cair) isn't! I also thought that they were built on the same tree hence I stupidly thought that it would be a safe buy (not from saddler, but got saddler to check it).

They are both the Gp version, the bates is the caprilli gp, cair with changeable gullets, 17 1/2", black, as new. I was hoping to get about £500 for it - am i way out of my league here? Saddler MAY part exchange it but she already has a bates in to sell so thinks it may take a while to sell hence she suggested I try to sell it myself.

Pretty gutted! :( x

If I were you I would try now to sell it on ebay, before the offer of the part exchange expires, because you might find that the best deal you'll get is still with your saddler part ex-ing it for you.

I've tried to sell 3 of my saddles this year, all excellent makes, in excellent condition (Stubben, and Albion) and I had no calls at all when I had them on at a fixed price, and when I put them on ebay, I was offered £200 for my 6 month old Albion k2 that cost me £1100, luckily I put a reserve on it, so didnt lose my saddle!

Sadly you can buy that saddle new from Equestrian Clearance for £599 so I doubt you would get £500 for it. Also, but I accept it's a while ago, I bought one from ebay two years ago and paid £350 for it - mind you that was the cheapest I'd seen one go for some time.
