When we bought my youngster he moved fine, happily trotted and cantered round the school. We got a professional saddle fitting, and he pretty much just lost the ability ot move practically. We put this down to only ever having worn one lightweight breaking saddle, and this being his first actual proper saddle. However a couple of months on he's still bucking, it takes him a good 10 minutes to establish an actual trot not a shuffle. But I guess it is mostly the bucking which is concern for me, as he never did it before.

I've asked the saddler to come back out and do a refit - do you think this is a good idea? Also should I expect to not have to pay the call out fee for the saddler as it's a faulty fit?

In all honesty I would consider having another fitter look at him, it's very unlikely your fitter will say, oh yes, i got it wrong, this visit is free and so will the alteration on your saddle. they are more likely to blame the horse for changing shape and charge you and even try and sell you another saddle. and it's impossible to prove otherwise. Cut your losses and look for a saddler recommended by word of mouth.

i agree with the above. in the meantime, i'd rest the horse and get his back done by a mctimoney chiropractor, if he was mine. what make is his current saddle, out of interest, please? pm if you like. i'd just like to know if it's on my list of "avoid like the plague" makes...
people on here can recommend very good saddlers in most areas of the country, fwiw. i always go by recommendation.
hope you get your lad sorted.

It's a kings saddle, and this was the saddler most recommended by everyone on my yard. Everyone else has found him brilliant, including one bloke whose opinion I would trust.

We're up in the Durham area, if that's any use to anyone.

His back has been checked and he's ok, but I will let him have a month off, as he needs it anyway.

If your saddler who originally fitted the saddle was a member of the society of master saddlers then you should complain to them as you have some come back then. It is always best to go for a qualified registered fitter as you can complain to their governing body and they will investigate. Hope this helps xx
