I've just bought my first ever monoflap dressage saddle and I love riding in it, but I'm finding that my saddlecloths are slipping back underneath it. I've been riding in a thin Eskadron cloth (which the saddle was fitted with) and have been trying to use the straps on it to attach to one of the girthing straps attached to the underside of the monoflap but I'm still finding that it's slipping back a bit.

What does everyone else do with monoflap saddles - do you attach the saddle cloth to the d-rings instead? Thanks

Was the saddle fitted properly? Saddlecloths shouldn't slip back, even on monoflap saddles. It's normally a sign of the saddle not fitting well.

yes is the answer. I have a monoflap event saddle, I have a thin rambo one that doesn't seem to move but use the d ring straps and find anything without a swan neck seems to drop drop down no matter how high you pull it up into the gullet , then it drops back. However have a premier equine one that does not move but the d ring straps are shorter. I have got my needle and thread out and have cut the velcro off and stitched it back on so that the d ring straps are shorter on a couple and that seems to work too. I think the straps are fitted for standard saddles and they are thicker at the front so the straps on some are made a bit too long.

I use le mieux saddle cloths under my equipe monoflap - they have little velcro straps that loop through the D rings so are perfect. They are a lovely shape as well - i think even without the straps they wouldn't move. :)

Thanks everyone - might have to learn how to sew as adore my colourful eskadron pads and don't want to have to not use them now I have a new saddle! Will also invest in some of the LeMieux ones (had already been eyeing them up, and now I have an excuse).
