Ive recently got a new saddle (leather - ive always had synthetic)....trouble is - the saddlecloth slips back when shes moving..../on the lunge/ridden

Obviously i pull it as forward as - tighten up the girth etc....but it still slides back - to the point where im stopping every 5 mins to pull if forward!....purely as the piping on the saddlecloth is going to become a pressure poiint for already narky mare....

So do i need (another!!) new saddlecloth or is it something im doing wrong :o:o:o i do put the front through the d rings or on the girth straps - none of these work...

Ive never had a "proper" saddle before :o always had cast offs/not so nice make do's so please be nice to my ignorance towards nice dressage leather saddles :D

What kind is it? I find anything padded or dead sheep the worst at slipping. Your shiny new leather saddle is still probably still shiny underneath! Won't help having a shiny horse to match.

I've gone back to plain diamond quilted cloths or polypads. No slip, no problem and cheap!

Does your saddle actually fit? I have only ever had problems with slipping saddle cloths on ill fitting saddle............

Was the saddle fitted with the cloth you are now using?

sorry should have said

the saddle was fitted (and bought) from a master saddler - never had any troulble in the past - he comes very reccomended so i honestly wouldnt imagine an issue with the saddle!

Probably my ignorance to which saddle cloth to use!

I have tried two - normal black one (rubbish..) and a pink high wither GP one - still rubbish

I have a Mark todd one which is designed to be non slip - however!!! its thick and im bothered this will alter the fit of the saddle!.......

Try a Chamoise leather (hope I've spelt that right!) underneath. I've got a young pony with no withers and my saddle slips about a bit, just tried this out today and it does really work and they are nice and thin so no sweating.

Chamois, (a mountain goat)... The chamois, Rupicapra rupicapra, is a goat-antelope species native to mountains in Europe,
I suspect most chamois leathers are not from wild goats hunted in the upper Alps, anyway, I have used these for racehorses, but kind of difficult to get one big enough from B&Q.
As a cheap alternative, try oiling the under part of the saddle, wipe it off and then use direct on the horse.

ok utter thickness question - this is as well as/instead of a numnah?

*goes to hide in a corner :o *

ets - ive found the same at £2.50 on ebay :D

I actually use it under the numnah and against the horse as my numnahs seem to slip no matter what! The racing yards use them against the horse too and I have to say they wash fabulously.

Bryndu:)
