saddle is ok was checked not so long ago, its always the edging of the saddlecloth, the prolite comfort one for example has quite a rough edge to it so horsey has a small rubbed patch behind saddle, got polypad at mo was ok for while but as summer coats coming through this has done the same thing, think its cos the edges tend to be rolled, its always just a small patch just behind her saddle not underneath the saddle itself
Nope, it is because the saddle is moving backwards and forwards and causing friction - trust me, P came with exactly the same thing. If the saddle is absolutely perfect then ride without a cloth, they are only for cleanliness anyway - if the same thing keeps occuring then you absolutely KNOW it is the saddle.
Here is a pic, you can clearly see the rubs - they have totally gone now
I've had this problem but only when my horse's coat is changing. I did change my saddle which helped a lot but the saddler told me it quite often happens because the girth isn't done up tight enough initially. Could it be that your girth is a bit loose and this is causing the saddle to move more than it should? Just a thought?
If you want a saddlecloth with smooth edges you would be better off looking at the ones with sheepskin underneath such as Nuumed etc.
I'd go with saddle problems too... but just in case it's not, my partner is a feltmaker and I got her to make me a felt saddle cloth which is about as benign as you can get. It wasn't cheap (I think equivalent to about £30) but it moulds itself to the horse....
get your saddle checked and join in the desperate hunt for a fitting saddle that seems to hit everyone eventually (except those who started with WOW who can gloat quietly that there's *always* fits...)
I had a horse that used to get rubbed - the square visible patch edges used to rub him, I think it was becuase the material was a bit thick and bound. So I used to ride him in a Nummah instead and that never rubbed, think becuase you haven't got a big flap of material. His saddle fitted fine.
He was quite a bloater as well so him being fat and round didn't seem to help.
