So it seems there are a million types of saddlepads and numnahs out there these days, all wth their own USP to win over the next potential buyer.

I'm looking for an everyday saddlepad for a horse with high withers, asthetically I'm not bothered just as long as it does the job and the precious four-legged is happy. At the moment we are using a polypad-esp style pad, I like the additional thicker padding, but I find it drops and becomes tight across the withers.. so no good.

Budget of around £50 ish at a push and with the added benefit of it going in the wahing machine and coming out in one piece and in the same shape it went in!

Thanks for any help and recommendations!

I use Lemieux Prosport GP saddlecloths. They fit well and wash well but I like thin saddlecloths - I have not used the thick padded type.

I think its just what im used to, I am willing to change my ways and go for something thinner. I know people say if the saddle fits correctly you should only need a thin saddlepad, if any, but I do quite like the idea of added protection, rightly or wrongly :)

I like the Anky pads, they stay put without straps because of the sticky writing on them. Still look great after a million washes and come in some lovely colours :)

ah the sticky technology! Love it! Just bought some jodphurs with sticky knee patches, I presume I will never fall off ever again ;)

I just couldn't recommend any of the padded ones because I don't have any - not because of saddle fit :-) The Anky ones look swish.
I'm boring and always get brown or white!

Le Mieux Prosport pads have high whither clearance and you can also get them with the shims in to add a little more protection along the pressure points of the saddle.

You could also try a good half pad with a thin pad. Acavallo and Oglivy are good options

I love limpets. They're not everyones cup of tea but they do the job, last forever and wash well (no/minimal spin or they tear), take an age to dry but don't need washing often. Might be out of your budget though and there are no fancy colours.

I'm a Nuumed (hope I've spelt that right??) fan.

They've got ones specially for high withers, with either sheepskin, or anti-slip.

Nice light little numnah's that stay put, easy to fix, and you can bung in the washing machine on a 30 degree wash with mild detergent and they'll come up nice!

Can't be beated IMO.

Can't stand the Polypad ones: they're way too thick and completely alter the fit of any decent saddle. The only thing they actually ARE useful for is a dog-bed!

i rate premier equine saddle pads, they are all cut well or high withers. fit my high withered tb perfectly, unlike loads of others that as you said drop and put pressure on the withers. he has a gorgeous merino wool one that i got in the sale! still washes nicely in my machine too.
