Got my new pony a few days ago and have had the saddler out. She had nothing that suited him and I was disappointed I wouldn't be able to ride him. I'm just dying to get up on his back! He apparently is quite an awkward shape. Flat withers and a short back. She said I'd need a 16.5 wide. However, I can't find anything anywhere secondhand. Have rung around and no one has anything. What am I supposed to do?! :(

You would probably find a native saddle will fit better, but they are expensive  or why don't u try a felt pad for the time being while you are looking for the perfect saddle as they have no tree so don't pinch. I know it feels like riding bareback but at least u can put stirrups on it :D

She's a Saddle fitter but not a Saddler.
I'm sure she had everything with her that might have fitted though. We can try 100 saddles on a horse and still not find the right one!

My horse has huge shoulders - he's a friesian and we had a prob with slippage! After many many saddles found a Barnsby that fits!:D

When I had this problem I ended up having a made-to-measure done. It cost me less than £500. It's 15.5" and xxxxxxxxxxxx wide (well, it feels like it!!), for an exmoor.
