Can anyone kindly recommend a saddler covering East Sussex? Ideally someone who’s willing to thoroughly go through her anatomy with me, but equally not sell me down the river as funds are somewhat limited.

Currently riding my mare in a Butet, but I am looking for something more forgiving for her whilst she’s still growing.

Don’t know where to start really as the current saddle has always just worked on previous horses and never made any of them sore - but it has with this one 😵‍💫.

Which area of East Sussex, and dressage /jumping/Gp.....what type of horse?!...Any preferences in brand?
.....Would all make a difference as to who I suggested ( it ain't easy in E.Sx, I'm just getting a new dressage one for my youngster!)

Dallington near Heathfield ☺️.

She is a rising 5YO KWPN who doesn’t appear to have any obvious oddities in her conformation.

I am open to either jump or dressage saddles - never liked GP from an aesthetic POV.

Again, I don’t have a preference on brand, just whatever works best for her and me. I’m not keen on anything with a changeable gullet, though.

If you are looking secondhand then worth ringing Margaret at west kent saddles, Julliette lilly at Mayfield saddlery...both carry some secondhand stock.
If you were interested in an Equipe olympia M+2 18" ( fits as a MW, rides like a 17.5"!)...let me know....selling mine to fund new saddle.!

Thank you.

As much as I love Equipe saddles, my mare is probably almost too short for a 17” and I’m only 5ft nothing so 17.5” would be too big 🤪.

Bother!!!...I could have popped it over to try!!!
If you like that type, Julliette deals with Equipe/amerigo

Perfect, thank you. Yes I do prefer continental saddles, and Equipe may be the way to go as I understand they are flocked and not foam panels?

I "think" most of the equipes are foam, but the amerigo range are flocked......you can always try some from the saddle bank/saddles direct etc, and get local saddler to adjust.
Julliette would probably be able to advise on tree shape/model most suitable if she didn't have anything in stock ?

Ah okay, that makes sense. I knew one of the two was flocked. Not sure my budget will extend to Amerigo 🫣 - I felt extravagant enough when I purchased an Amerigo girth!

I’ll have a look around for second hand Amerigo. Do you know what the widths translate into? I think she will need something that equates to a medium as her Butet is on the wider side of their standard trees. She is super dainty with not much in the way of shoulders at the moment.

I think they tend to fit on the tighter side both horse and rider.....give julliette a ring...she should be able to advise...and there are some well priced secondhand ones out there.

Margaret at West Kent doesn't touch foam saddles and also does new saddles if required. She's based Rotherfield so quite near you. 17" are like hen's teeth for some reason at the moment. I've been looking for a 17" K2 jump in black for a while without any luck. My 17.5" fits but 17" would be better for him.

Thank you 🙏🏼. Yes just having looked online I can see there’s pretty much anything you could want in 17.5” but 16.5” and 17” are like finding a needle in a haystack 🤦🏼‍♀️

You could also try Tessa the saddler she carries a lareg range of second hand saddles and has been brilliant in fitting mine and my liveries
