Looking for saddler recommendation in the herts area, i am looking for my current saddle to be checked but also to purchase a jump saddle (2nd hand one!).

Also, any to best avoid please!

With Tack haven is there anyone in particular that you would recommend?

Also, has anyone used Kay humphries?

I don't recommend the Tack Haven for saddle fitting. I love the shop and they have lots of 2nd hand saddles, but both saddlers there tried to fit a very wide horse into a medium width saddle.

Martin Wilkinson and the saddler from Dennis' in Aylesbury will cover that area.

I think that as with Farriers, you can't just blindly trust a saddle fitter. You have to learn about saddle fitting too and listen to your horse.

Apparantly Kay humphries charges 75 plus travel (though i am in an area that she covers??). This seems rather a lot??! The most i've ever paid is 40!

I'm in herts and I use Bridlepath International. They have second hand saddles and also check existing saddles or saddles bought elsewhere without pressure to buy a new one.

I think Martin Wilkinson is a brilliant fitter and have bought a brand new saddle from him in the past, HOWEVER you may struggle to buy a second hand saddle from them as they like to sell new (he didn't bring ANY second hand saddles with him when asked - VERY naughty!!).

Tack Haven are very good and have a great range of second hand saddles at a variety of prices - I have just bought a very nice dressage saddle from them (because of the above ^^) and managed to get a 10% reduction in the price on the label. I personally use Toni but Laura is very good too :)

You can box to them to try saddles or you can have them out to you :)

This is exactly why I have just fitted one myself using my existing (fitted) saddle as a template and knowing the issues I have had finding one to fit in the past... so far so good! I'm sure He'll grow again now so neither saddles fit right ;)
