Please could people recommend saddle fitters who will come to a yard in Exeter, apart from Ashton Saddlery? (Nothing against but I am already aware of her and wanted to get opinions on others as well)

Thanks

Can't specifically recommend as have had no dealings with these but there are Janet (?) at Nutwell Saddlers, Exmouth or Karen at Leonard Coombe, Newton Abbot.

I secomd Leonard Coombe, It has been 15 years since i used them, but if their service is the same, you will have an excelent, competent and thorough fitting session

If not, Gini Mortimer is also very good but she works on behalf of the saddle exchange, as such she only fits comfort, native and Reactor Panel Saddles.

Just spoke to Nutwell, they only fit new saddles (circa £900) and horse is only 6 with no muscle at the mo so I can't spend that much only to probably spend out again not far down the line as he changes shape...... Also spoke to Leonard Coombe and they cant come out for a month

Anyone else got recommendations?

Hi, Nathaniel only does new as well, £900 +

I think I want a VSD or working hunter as I want fairly straight cut but able to jump in. He came with an Ideal WH which I was hoping to px or sell to get some or all of the money towards another one (I am 99% sure it doesn't fit and not happy to ride in it as I think it is very tight across the shoulder and so hence not wanting to wait a month!). Just spoke to a really nice lady from Hooper saddles who is very reasonably priced for call out and return but she doesn't have many second hand. She did however suggest an adjustable leather one which can then be adjusted as he changes shape in the future so the £950 or so initial expense would not be quite so painful if I knew it was going to last. She has lots of these in stock but they are all new so its really whether I can afford that expense in the first place

Apparently there is not many saddle fitters who sell and fit second hand anymore?!

Give the saddle exchange a ring:

http://www.saddleexchange.com/

you can get a new one for about £995 or better still a second hand saddle from them for about £595 (and they look damn near new), really well made in english leather, and they will come back three months later and check the fit again and make any adjustments needed Free of charge, they do gel or flock, I have a gel one and my mare just seems to float in it. (very comfy for the rider too) I can reccomend them and Gini is based in crediton, she is very very good.

I have always used leonard coombe, so do loads of other people i know. yes there can be a wait, but somtimes she gets cancellations. i have always recieved a proffessional, thorough service and never been sold something i dont need from them.
