my new horseys saddle isnt great for her and so i am having to buy a new one which is v bad timing financially as the car needs a new engine - oops!

anyway how does it work, i have one or two to trade in but do they let you trial the saddle for a while before buying or is it try it then buy it there and then?

Shes a barrel 16.3hh so i have no idea what i will need to get but i cant spend a lot - am wondering what the average saddle would cost, wouldnt mind a wintec or anything would be better than the one at the moment which feels like you are going to slip round ger at any minute!

any suggestions for a decent saddler?

After buying Badger I traded in James saddle with Toni at TC who came to fit it etc. However after 3/4 months we felt he really wasn't enjoying this saddle and he had grown a couple of inches

so out came Toni again and this time the best saddle for both of us was a brand new one. She left it with me for a week (or 10 odd days as it turned out

) and left me the old one as well in case he decided he didn't like the new one either. We went with the new one so then traded the old one in on that. Got lovely new saddle for half the cost!

Another lady at my yard had 3 quality saddles of various sizes from previous horses and chopped them all in as a job lot against a first saddle for her youngster. That was also with Toni.

thyanks - thats who i am thinking about using so thats good to know! any idea what her prices start at? sorry i am rubbish but i have always had a saddle come with the horse - and i dont need anything to posh or trendy!!!!!!!!!!

She really does have saddles at all levels of price so don't panic and she is good at doing you a fiar deal.

The first saddle I traded in was a gorgeous Albion K2 and I got a Cliff Barnsby in return for the princely sum of £50. She spent ages with us and didn't charge me for the time.

Second saddle was a GFS Extra VSJ which is just short of £1000 brand new and I got it for £300 after the trade in and she gave me a brand new girth as the one I had bought such a short time ago wasn't long enough for the unstretched girth straps on the saddle.

We use Toni, and have had second hand and traded in and bought a new saddle last year. Can't praise her enough

I have used Martin Wilkinson from London Colney - Herts. I have found him very good. Prices for all ranges. New & Used & will sell you old saddle for you as well. Does Wintec, Albion etc.
