Hi
Does anyone know a good saddler in Kent, I dont seem to be able to find one that can fit a saddle to my horse. Im getting a little fed up, my dressage saddle still doesnt fit even though the saddler has only just been out to refit it!!!!
I have been looking for a jumping saddle for over 2 years now with no luck
Thanks

Ooh! I have a fantatic saddler called Nicola

Infact, she could be from the same place as Colin ^^..
Jobo, is he from "The Saddle Workshop?" or something ??

I'll try and find her number for you . She's brilliant, only downside is the waiting list is about 3 weeks. She's very popular.

a use a wonderfull saddler called andrew reilly. has the patience of a saint and very thorough. you can get his number from the society of master saddlers

I use clive bending hes brilliant but he doesnt work weekends or school holidays and is quite busy so needs some notice.

Colin shilling i would strongly not reccommend but wont go into details on here.

I wouldn't use anyone in Kent except Peter Husband, he only hand makes saddles etc, refits, reflocks etc, he doesn't sell off the shelf stuff. Have encountered most the others and think they are all sharks - in my opinion.

And having seen the two hand-made "made-to-measure" saddles he has sold to a girl on my yard, I would NEVER recommend Peter Husband. Even my non-horsey husband could see that these saddles didn't fit!

well there you go, we all have an opinion, why did she buy two though if one was so bad?

Because she doesn't know any better, sadly. She is someone who takes the word of an "expert", and doesn't question it at all.

Thanks,
I have tried a few but dont think I have tried any of the ones you have suggested. I have used a saddler from saddle world, wasnt that impressed and it took them almost 3 years to sell my saddle so no wonder there have such a large number of saddles

A couple of people on my yard use Nicky, they used to be very impressed but recently they have had to have her back to fix the work she has done so that put me off.
I was just so fed up on Friday, I had to get off twice of Friday to move that saddle back into place, its only the 3rd time I had ridden on it since it was adjusted!!!

I had another person from SaddleWorld out once and the day after, I rode in it and my horse bronced and bolted. So , needless to say I'm quite wary of some of their fitters. Interesting about Nicky! I've touch wood not had any problems yet

O-eck, your saddle does sound like its a right pain in the ar$e ! Good luck x

I think it might be the horse who is a pain in the ar$e!!!
quite high withers, and big high shoulder blades which is why, I am struggling to find a jumping saddle

John Lloyd is a fantastic saddler based in sussex but travels to kent. Number is 01580 860860. He has been fitting/ checking my saddles for about 7 years and been trading since 1970.
