Hi. I asked on here a while back about recommended saddlers in my area, and was recommended 'the Saddle Man' Andy Wheals. I was looking to get my old horses saddle checked, but as he's retired, I didn't pursue it then.

Now I have bought a 4 yr old mare, and she arrived a bit lean after the winter, and she didn't come with a saddle. So I know she will change shape as she gains condition, gets fitter and matures. But I need a saddle for her as she's been with us 3 weeks now and I still haven't sat on her!

Andy can 'fit' a saddle if I have one, but only does new ones (bit out of budget, also a waiting list!!) so does anyone know of a saddler who will bring over some second hand ones to try? I have looked in Albrighton Feeds (who are quite local to me) but they don't have anything I liked. I thought about Wintec, and bought one to try from Robinsons, but I just don't like the fit
- it has a changable gullet but even so it seems to sit wrong on her.

Any ideas anyone????

Jackie Roberts she does second hand and new will part ex when a new one is needed a really good saddler. you will to google her though as don't have contact number to hand

ooh fab area to live in as your not far from Walsall the home of saddle makers! have you tried going to the companys direct, you have Barnsby, Albion, Black country, GFS, Ideal to name a few and there only about 14miles away from Albrighton feeds!

I live near you and got the major players out and tried lots of different makes, settled for a Barnsby in the end and as I pay monthly for my saddle it has not cost a fortune either!

Have you tried Eccleshall Tack shop. There are probably dozens of second hand saddles in there, all types. You can take them home to try, you have to pay but tell them its a trial and then you can take it back and get your money back if it didn't fit. You could find one you like then get fitter out to check it. Its a fantastic aladins cave of everything horsey.

Hi, yes I have - unfortunately as I don't really know what size she is it's a bit tricky... also they will let you take the saddle but have to leave cost of the saddle as a cash deposit, so really only one at a time is practical, and as they are a 40 min drive away that could be a time and diesel consuming exercise!!
