I am very very happy with the saddler I use, she is fantastic at her job and very honest! She came out a couple of weeks ago and as it turns out I need a new saddle as mine no longer fits my horse. Unfortunately she is only a fitter and does not sell saddles so she recommended me a type of saddle to go for and somebody for me to go to who should really be able to help me as he has a wide range of saddles and is very trustworthy. So going on her recommendation I contacted him and had an almost instant reply, he suggested I take my horse to him (45 min journey in a car, let alone in a box) which I had a think about and as it turns out I cannot get my horse there due to lack of transport.
So I contacted him for a callout price which he once again swiftly replied with the details. I thought, great! Get him out ASAP and get this sorted.

Problem is that now I cannot get hold of him!! I have asked when he can come out (he prefers to be contacted via email) so I can book him in ASAP and he has ignored it, I have tried again a week later and again it has been ignored.

Now, I am getting really desperate as my horse is a "thrive on work" type, and I have been riding bareback to kill the time between but she has withers like razor blades (ouch), and really needs hacking which I am not willing to do bareback on my currentyly out of work, very hyper thoroughbred as we are based on a busy main road we have to ride along before we can reach any off road/bridleways. Should probably aslo add that she cannot be lunged due to medical reasons. Now has been out of work due to weather and then saddle for 4 weeks on Sunday, with the odd bareback ride thrown in.

Any ideas? I have the money sitting in the bank for the new saddle and the callout etc and I have decided which saddle I want, but would I be better just purchasing it myself and having my current saddler come out and fit it? I will be calling my saddler today to see what she suggests also.

Thanks if you managed to read this far, any ideas appreciated!! :)

Well that is my thoughts on the matter now, if he doesn't want the business then that is up to him but I just want to get a saddle fitted and sorted asap, especially now spring is coming!

I am in Kent, there are a fair few in the area but not many that sell saddles which is half the problem! And then its a case of who do you trust enough to do a good job as I wouldn't have the first clue of what fits and what doesn't (VERY laid back horse who doesn't help in the slightest as she just puts up with anything ) .
I would rather go on word of mouth than anything. I am now thinking I would be better buying the saddle I want and having my saddle come out and fit it.

That's strange you mention this, I contacted a saddler in the Kent area as I'm looking for a new saddle. He replied instantly and told me I was a little too far for him to visit but asked me what sort of saddle I was looking for. I replied to him but didn't hear anything back again after that. Maybe it's the same person and there could be a reason he's unable to reply??

Oh really? I dont really want to mention the name on here but can PM you if you would like?
I called my saddler at lunch today and she said she is going to try and get hold of him for me, if not I am not carrying on hanging around waiting for him.

Webble, thats a very good idea! I will take a look at that site. Thanks :)

If he can't even return a phone call for potential new business, how reliable is he going to be once he has your money?
