Saddles fitting = nightmare. So fed up!!

Coming from a totally different angle has anyone seen the new Quantum saddle? For me it is the most amazing piece of science. When they showed it to me I thought they had brought a prototype to work on!!!!!! We have 2 horses that have been impossible to fit for 12 months, the Quantum is absolute perfection & totally different to any other saddle I have ever seen. Best bit is in 5 mins it can be altered by colour coded strips. So if you buy for a young horse it doesnt matter if it changes shape. The saddle changes with it. Take a look, I would love to hear your views. www.quantumsaddles not sure if .com or .co.uk I love em

I love the idea of these - but am hampered by two things, one is I also need a dressage saddle, the other is the cost. There is just no way I could afford to buy two of them.

I know someone I SJ train with through RC uses one and she loves it too.

Still not convinced by the quantums. LOVE the idea, but they scream WOW to me in the fact they are excellent if you get them spot on, but there are so many variables that could go wrong... so they can be amazing or awful

Look forward to hearing more about them though

Yes I appreciate they are not cheap, but are they any more expensive than say a Butet or Devacoux (sp) For me though if your horse has had to be kept out of work for months that is also very expensive. Would love to hear others views on the Quantum concept.

No, I don't think they are, but those are well out of budget for me too - I fully appreciate it is different if horses are your profession - I couldn't work without a decent car and would not think twice about spending money on one as I clock up 20-40K work miles a year!

I love the idea, but I have to say I am with KatB a bit - I am watching and waiting to see what happens as there are many potential ways for them to be badly fitted I think. Not that that is not true for a normal saddle, but your options of getting it altered are much lower.

Out of interest, would you get them for your 'not hard to fit with conventional saddles' horses? Do you think they make that much difference, or do you see them as a last resort for two impossible to fit conventionally horses? I am genuinely interested and would love to sit in one one day (maybe Emily will let me one day?!).

anyway - ended up going made to measure and have not looked back since... best thing i ever did.

who made your saddle? please tell me you are dorset based as im having the same nightmare with my slightly bum high mare

Just wanted to say, just because your horse has big shoulder's dosen't mean they can't have a jumping/forward cut saddle :)

Yes it is a nightmare. I had issues with a saddle made to measure for my horse by nathanial. It was totally crooked not just on my horse but on other horses with other riders. Nathanial wouldn't have do anything about it. Society of Master Saddlers wouldn't help me at all....no-one wants to rock the boat.... Eventually the company that made it (nathanial doesn't actually make the saddles himself) agreed it had a massive issue and fixed it.

The saddler at Wadswick (corsham) is good and sure he travels around the south-west.

Gosh I thought I had a bad time !! I'm Dorset based too. My Arab mare who is wide slightly bum high and is a big mover proved practically impossible to fit!!I had three sadddlers :
First one was pants and very rude saddle went back to her and I have since seen many threads about her.
Second one fitted my little horse standarbred pony that was a pacer so knew she was reliable
Got a lovely Arabian saddle unfortunately we grew out of this quickly! We then ended up going down the made to measure route which was a disaster three saddles made for her two wrong width and colour! Third looked good but mare completely hated it I sold this one to a friend!
So third time lucky and some time later with bigger budget I had horse e things out . He was actually my first call and had come out and taken templates but had nothing in our very small budget of £400 at the time!!he had a few second hand that we tried but we ended up with a made to measure farrington which I'm very happy with!
Though i do wonder why I bothered I spent alot and lost alot of money and up till then she had been ridden in my other horses saddle with out any problems for years!!

There is only one saddle fitter I would let within a hundred yards of my boy. I eneded up buying two new saddles from two different saddlers.

My current saddler cut through all the cr*p and fitted him. No problems since. The saddler doesn't charge an arm and a leg for minor changes allowing for seasonal changes and is very good with his approach to my boy who is suspicios of strange men!

I another who always buy secondhand and fit them myself. If you have a trial, which Sandon Saddlery is excellant for, you can get a feel of the saddle and if you know your horse, if it moving well, going forward,is leval and you are not tipping the chances are Cinderella has found her shoe.
I did have a lady out from Balance saddles which iIpaid £50 for because I was so curious and the different types and widths did effect the horses way of going, but I was not impressed enough to part with my cash.
If anyone has children they will know when they are measuresd for expensive shoes the child nearly always end up in a different size. I feel a little sorry for the saddlers as horses and ponys can change shape in weeks but the basic fit should be OK and just need tweeking. I have seem some horrers sold by saddlers and fitters.
