saddles for arabs

I have a 14.3 8 year old arab mare, who i am just starting to break.

I've tried on every saddle in the tack room in an effort to find a make/style that fits and none do!

Can anyone recommend anything? I don't want to spend masses of money, as she will change shape once she is in work, but I will have whatever I get checked by my saddle fitter.

I've tried wintec - x Wide, too narrow. Maxam, sits well at the front but back is about 2 inches off her back, saddle company (on my arab gelding, so I thought it would fit) - don't even go there!!!! I've also tried an ideal, which didn't seem too bad, but a bit too pricey!!!!

So ideas welcome please!

I have a thorowgood cob tree x-wide for my part arab gelding, you could try that =)

You have said that you have tried all of these saddles - but were any of them the right width and seat size for the horse?

You would be better off paying a saddler to come down with a range of saddles in the mare's size to try out, rather than trying on random saddles from your tack room.

Farrington - I have a 17" medium WH saddle on my 14.3 Arab gelding.

I am also saving for a Flyde Marjorie saddle.

You would be better off having a saddler coming out to measure her up, then you will know what size, width and shape tree she will need.
As shes only starting out under saddle as she develops her shape will change, By ensuring your new saddle has interchangerable gullets, or a wooden tree and flocking. None of this "air" crap. It would be easier for you to have it adjusted over time then having to change it every time she changes!

I have Thorowgood endurance saddles for both my Arabs - an extra-wide and a wide respectively. They fit very well and I have them checked every six months or so - they've needed very little adjustment over the years.

I had a torsion treeless on my 14.3 arab it fitted fairly well, I've since had an arabian saddle company saddle and it is the best thing ever.

Arabian saddle company or Thorowgood synthetic .
Actuallu any cob type make should do the job.
extra extra wide (!) arab mare has a synthetic as its the only thing we could buy that fitted her.

Another vote for the Marjorie, all our ridden Arabs at work have them.
