Saddles for Fell ponies/natives

I might try a different one. I have the pubis pad but it’s mega heavy and makes the saddle wide. Funny story I tried the gell in one, it was a bit tight lengthways . Cantered down a track, pony spooked, I shot up into the air , lost my stirrups and continued boinging up and down out of saddle until we got back to walk. My friend behind on her horse nearly fell of laughing. So maybe a less bouncy pad might help. I also worry that saddles not the most comfy for pony as on thin rubber panels but it must be better than one that moves a lot that all the other ones I’ve tried have done. You can leave this on pony ungirthed and it just sits there, not pinned in place just the right shape .

Fiona Cork and Fylde Ray or Black Country seem to work best on fell ponies but of course it depends on the pony and riders conformation!

My T6 con no longer fits Faran. His shoulders
Are too big. I’ve been recommended a

Black Country gp on a freedom tree in wide
Ideal H&C in wide/xwide
Chunky monkey

I also got a few good suggestions from here as well ?

he has massive shoulders and wide spinal processes and a back like a table.

I've found Barrie Swain / Humphries & Swain saddles great for native types, particularly the ones with serge. Also had Native Pony Saddle company & AH (though the Native Pony isn't the most comfortable for me). WH/show saddles generally work well on natives, a lot of folks rate Black Country, Fylde & Ideal.

Look on the used native pony saddles Facebook site it's run by AH saddles they only list the wider saddle and often smaller seat saddles are on there as well.

Already on there and SBloom has kindly told me which AH saddle to look out for. I've only seen one that was the right size and it was out of budget sadly.

I'd like to try an Ideal Ramsay but again I haven't seen a single one in the right seat size/width combo.

If anyone sees one or similar (Black Country etc) I need a 16 or 16 1/2" seat in XW. ?

Not sure how Black Country measure up for width but at the moment in the Scottish Showing Forum Sales page is a 16" w BC Hartley for £800.

A Fylde Samantha again in wide not extra wide.

That's it since the start of November. Going a bit back to October there's a 17" ex w ideal working hunter saddle but that will be too long for you.

Black Country GP on my fells. One is on a freedom tree, the other on a native tree as he's much wider, flatter and has a forward girth groove. Both fit really well. Getting the girthing right has been the last piece of the puzzle though. I use a Stubben trevira cord girth for one which has been perfect, and I'm saving up for an anatomical girth for the other as the cord girth bunches behind his elbows. It's been a long slow process of trial and error with saddles for the chunky boy and it is so good to now have a saddle which doesn't slip sideways or go up his neck!!

I had an ideal Ramsey years ago for Arabi I loved it but he outgrew it fairly quick and I learnt to realise the close contact type show saddle didn't suit him anyway, his not built like a typical Arab which are similar to a native in back profile most of the time.
