What saddle makes do you use on your high withered horses? I know of the Thorowgood high withered saddle and the Kent and Masters equivalent...

I had the thorowgood for my TB xWelsh, and it was a fantastic saddle, it looke like leather and was very comfy and although it was a GP was very easy to jump and do dressage in. We loved it so much we got another thorowgood for Koko :)

I purchased a high wither Thorowgood, for by TB. It's very poor quality and still needs a saddle raiser underneath. I'd consider getting a professional saddle fitter to visit and invest in a decent saddle. That's what I'll be doing next time.

I was a saddle snob, until a Thorowgood was what we bought for our eventer. He is a very high withered WB. He changes shape like I have hot dinners. I don't mind the Thorowgood's but we are going to try and get an Albion specially made for him. Not my cup of tea, but they fit him and that's what counts I suppose (he suffered a lot with previous problems due to ill fitting tack- this was with previous owner. We haven't had a problem since).

(All our other horses have Ideals- I just wish I could get one that fitted Titan :()

Thank you...this is what I have decided to get done. Shes one of the best in the county so I hear, with lovely nearly new and new leather saddles costing from 800 to 1200........eek! I could have got the synthetic for 350 or leather one (kent and masters) for 700 from the man saddler that came out, but please make me feel better about getting the pro lady out an her posh saddles (shes going to do templates and he didnt). I don't have loads of money at the mo, but this horse needs a good fitting saddle. And as said above I wonder if the thorowgood high wither will be high enough at the back. If I did go this option the other man saddler said it would take til the end of jan to get it, then he would see if this fits, then if it does he would order me the kent and masters saddle...so really looking until beginning/mid march! My cob has a thorowgood cob saddle and its lovely for her as it fits.

Both my horses have high withers and both have thorowgoods, one the old type and one the newer high wither version (which wasn't yet invented when my old boy got his saddle!) I am pleased with the fit of both of them and particularly the newer one is very comfy. I get the saddler out once/twice a year to check fit and he always takes one look at my old man (who has rediculously high withers) in his thorowgood and says I won't find another saddle that fits him as well as that! I do think they are good saddles. oNe advantage of synthetic over most leather saddles is it is so light, my old boy has also suffered back problems in the past (before he got this saddle), so having something so light really helps him.

I'm not trying to put you off getting a expensive saddle, of course feel free if you have the money. Just be aware that sometimes even the made-to-measure ones won't fit and you can end up wasting a lot of money. It does depend what you want to do of course. My saddles probably aren't smart enough to do high level showing in for example, but everything else we get on fine with.

I hope you find one that fits whatever you decide. :)
