I'm about to get a leather saddle for the first time tomorrow... my crappy old wintec may finally get some rest. Obviously I want to look after it - it's taken some saving for. Can i ride in the rain and if I do how can i make sure the saddles ok???

Yes, you can ride in it in the rain.

If it get's wet - let it dry and then saddle soap it afterwards (that's what I do anyway).

Ive always ridden in the rain but if I wasnt in the seat id cover my saddle over. Aslong as you wipe your saddle over after riding youll be fine,.
Some ppl wil most prob disagree but my saddle cost a bomb so am extra carefull.

Fine to ride in the rain, but afterwards dry it off with a towel & when it seems to be properly dry, oil it with something like Jeffries leather balsam. Oil the hide (rough) side & just give a light wipe over with oil on the top side. Or give it a spray with a tack conditioner such as Belvoir.

I am a lazy so & so with my tack, but my WOW seems to be looking good on this treatment!

Let dry naturally and when you are 100% sure it is dry then feed and feed and feed it with something like Harmanol - don't use saddle soap. This is just my opinion though

Just a thought if it is a brand new saddle then it will need treating several times before you get it wet.

Use Hamanol or Effax before use then.
