Just tried one of my saddles on my youngster & its definitely not going to fit as too narrow. It cost over 1k new (previous horse), so wondering whether to sell privately or PX with saddler. I obviously want the best deal.... I know one of our saddlers doesn't pay much for second hand but not sure about others.

Just wondering what route other people have done? Just sold the ponys saddle on ebay for silly money (worth double), but equally bought a replacement at probably half the cost. So probably don't want to go the ebay route...

I really don't want to lose too much money on it as lovely saddle (& I wish it would fit!!!). Anyone sold a saddle recently?

I would call the saddler and see how much you would get for PX. Once you know that, have a look online and see what others in similar condition are selling for. If you sell yourself it will probably take longer than PX'ing but you may get more for it.

Having said that, I've sold a saddle today which I listed on Preloved 11 days ago. Also advertised in my local tack shop (had no calls from that though!) and on Horsemart which is also free to list. I would also try listing on Gumtree / Freeads and a local FB 'tack for sale' page.

I tend to avoid selling anything on eBay because of the prices things go for and by the time you've paid fees it doesn't seem worth it.

I have sold two of mine in Horsewares shop (not really an option for uk people) but what about a tack shop i paid €50 for it to be in the shop and then 5% of what i sold it for

I decided to part exchange mine with the saddler. Yes I would probably have got more if I'd sold it privately but I just couldn't be bothered with the hassle plus the chance that it wouldn't sell and I'd end up having it laying around for ever more. I think it would really depend on the make of your saddle and if you know there is a market for it.

Hmmm its a Stubben (Roxanne Dressage)- so maybe saddler might be a better option, as not everyones cup of tea.... Hadn't really thought about the 'market' but maybe I will google ebay and see if many sold recently....

I recently traded in a saddle and got around £100 less than I had seen them advertised for elsewhere - no advert fees, no dealing with calls offering me £25 and a dead rabbit, no postage, no hassle, no waiting around.

I was very happy with the deal

Haha yes that is true also.... maybe I will hold onto it until its time to get him his 'best saddle' & phone some saddlers then. Now to wait a few years for him to stop growing..... which will be my next post- when did your youngster stop growing.....

I have had success with both. I brought a 2nd hand albion jump saddle when I first brought my horse, and sold it after 3 years (due to him changing shape), and made a profit. I brought it for £400, and sold it for £520 on preloved. I then had brought a brand new albion k2 jump saddle for about £1200, had to sell after 6 months due to another change in shape, so part ex it with a different saddler for another brand new jump saddle, and she gave me just under£900 for mine. Wasn't expecting that much, so was pleasantly surprised
