Interesting that this thread has popped up again! I've had a fitter out in the meantime that carries the HM, and tried one. Bizarrely, we ended up trying a 16", as the 17" was still too long for her. I was really concerned that I would have massive problems, but as soon as I got on, my legs just went exactly where they ought to be, and the mare found it so much easier to open out her shoulders...it felt really really nice! I'm arranging to try it again with my instructor there to be a second pair of eyes, and if that works, then that may be our answer. Fingers crossed!
