Saddles that don't tip forwards

Any recommendations for a make of saddle that is less likely to tip forward?

My ned is built with a definite downward slope to him (long back legs like a rabbit for a surprising turn of speed - but unfortunately the front half from a completely different horse!)

His current saddle is a Wintec wide, which has the extra girth strap which helps keep it down at the back - but which isn't the best fit across the withers.
He needs something fairly straight cut in front (because of the giant bulgy cob shoulders) .

Anyone have any pointers about a make that might suit?

I would ask the advice of a good saddler. It might be a case of careful flocking to solve your problem rather than a particular type of saddle.

i would get a qualified saddle fitter out to be honest. I don't think you will ever be sure if you have done the right thing unless you do. They will bring a selection of saddles to try on him if you explain his build.

I think any saddle could tip forward if it doesn't quite fit right and then can happen if the horse gets fitter or puts weight on. Probably just needs adjusting?

Thanks all.
Made to measure is out of the question price wise I'm afraid, so I'm stuck with 'off the peg' (plus adjustments obviously) The last saddle was a wintec wide, fitted and adjusted by a saddler, and it was he who recommended using the 4th girth strap as a help. The saddle never rubbed or gave my boy any trouble - but the 'downhill' was always there (plus I tend to lean forward anyway).
My tack got stolen last night (all of it!) so I now need to find a new saddle and wondered if there were any brands in particular that might be worth a look. The Thorowgood T3 range looks interesting. Anyone have a comment about these?

Thorowgood saddles are very good and I can highly recommend them. As prittstick says, Wintecs often wiggle at the back. However, as others have said, you really need a good saddle fitter for advice.

Have you tried the Thorowgood Griffen Cob saddle, they are fairly straight cut despite being a GP saddle, not only that but the wintec seem to have a more straighter tree where as the TG griffen cob is a little more bananna shaped (if you get what I mean). Plus you have the fish system for the shoulders which you can adjust, they dont actually make this saddle anymore but there will be saddlers that still have them in stock...or indeed you may be able to get one a bit cheaper because of this.

Sometimes if the saddle is a little big say for instance a 17.5'' rather than a 17'' that can cause your saddle to tip or slip forwards slightly....half an inch does make all the difference

I have a thorowgood T6 and i love it, almost totaly adjustable (including panels) so your saddle fitter should be able to ensure you get a perfect fit, plus you have changeable gullet and fish for small alterations. What a nightmare about your tack
