Saddles! Which one?!

Ok, so...

I ride in a stubben siegfried jumping. Neddie isn't jumping yet, but I have long legs, and ride quite short. I hope to be doing mainly jumping in future, so I got our lovely siegfried.

New sharer rides classical dressage, so her legs don't come anywhere near my saddle's knee rolls...


SO - it is time for saddle measuring anyway, so should I ask for a GP, or think of getting a second hand cheapish dressage saddle, and ask sharer to contribute? Then I could keep my siegfried, andjust have any adjustments done, if needed.

ALSO, for me she rides too long, her toes have to point down to reach the stirrup, but I don't want to offend her by telling her she is wrong, and she obviously knows a lot more about dressage than I do! She speaks quite good english, so I'm at a loss how to broach the subject..

If I was the sharer I would ask you if you minded me buying a dressage saddle. I wouldnt expect you to buy it for me to use. If you fancied doing some dressage too then I would be really appreciative if you went halves.
I wouldnt mention anything about her riding though.

I wouldn't expect her to outright buy the dressage saddle I don't think, as the loan is only for the year..

.. But you have got me thinking, I might ask her of her opinion of whether she would like/need a saddle, but make it clear I cannot buy it for her.

Luckily I have a good saddler who buys back saddles at a reasonable loss.

I think you are being very considerate. If she hasnt mentioned needing a dressage saddle I would leave it well alone unless of course you fancy one. If so I wouldnt mind paying for a 2nd hand one (if poss) and if she offered to contribute then great. If you dont want one and she hasnt said anything then I wouldnt even bring the subject up.
Changing my mind again now lol.
I suppose you could in conversation say something like, If you are struggling with my jumping saddle I dont mind you getting a dressage saddle, obviously you would want one that is fitted right and not just something she turns up with.

considering that this is your horse, i dont think it would be unreasonable to suggest that she might find your horse goes better if she shortens her stirrups a couple of holes. people see dressage and immediately assume you have to have your feet near the floor. longer length legs need to be earnt. it takes time and patience. regarding your saddle issue, have you looked at a vsd saddle. this would mean that you only have to have one saddle that you can both use. vsd means, very slightly dressage. i have used one of these and find it does everything its meant to do. i can get my legs short enough with my knees secure enough for jumping and i can then lengthen them for the dressage. fantastic
