Which saddle to go for? I have a wintec wide, but I feel it is pushing me forward all the time and am considering a Thorowgood. The Wintec does this in all 3 gullets and am fed up with it. It is the same size 17 1/2" as my leather saddle which does not do this.

What do you guys think?

Thanks x

Depends on the shape of your horse's back. Which breed?

And I'm not sure why the gullet would affect your position? Unless you mean it is too wide in front hence sliding you forward?

As for the seat size that varies between makes and models depending on how flat/deep the seat is.

Some saddles push me forward as well. It can be to do with the width of the seat further back, and also the shape/position of the cantle. I recently had to have a new saddle for George as a master saddler told me that the reason he had back pain was that the master saddler who fitted him (who has now moved from Devon to Wiltshire so will never use again anyway, and is renowned for this kind of thing), fitted him too long! I tried a range of new saddles in 17" before I found the right one for my shape/size/position. I ended up with a Jeffries Hawk Event!

Re your question, I would go to a saddler and ask their advice.

Do you have a padded bum!?? Part of the reason I was being pushed forward more than my husband in the saddles, was because he can literally ride in anything - his legs are the width of my arms, so the width of the saddle doesn't push his legs away from the horse considerably; and his bum is not very padded so he doesn't get pushed forward so much by a flat saddle or a raised cantle versus low pomel.

what breed and shape is the horse. If a withery dippy back TB type, the wintec might work, but if at all flat back no withers cob like the Thorowgood normally works way better.

need more info!

As said, your best option is to ask a saddler. However, in my experience, wintec fit very few horses properly and you would probably be much better off with a Thorowgood.
