Okay, I have vowed, that if Benj comes back into work, then I am going to get him a new saddle, GP/VSD.

His muscle tone along his back, particularly under his saddle is poor, and I have done everything to try and help this. At the moment we have a Simmonds VSD, with extra large panels. (this was because I was so huge!!) Now I am a shadow of my former self, I don't really think I need it and it clearly isn#t doing him much good. Don't get me wrong, it fits, but I now worry about the weight.

Can you recommend anything? I am not adverse to a synthetic jobbie, as I know they have improved greatly over the years.
I just want something lighter weight for the old boy!!

If you are looking for light and it doesn't have to be leather you could try a Wintec, they've improved over the years, have various styles and aren't badly priced. Personally, I'm a WOW fan but they aren't the lightest saddles although they have recently brought out a lighter version.

Good luck

I'm another Humphries & Swain devotee. We use their serge lined saddles and they are fantastic. Horses have never gone better quite honestly.

Don't touch a wintec for bad backs if your horse is wide get the new IDEAL highland and cob full wide breed saddle and put a LIMPET pad under it nothing else these pads help heal I have been there bad saddle bad pad underneath so I know what i'm talking about.

I agree with Tiffany, the wow are great saddle. not the lightest, but the fit is amazing and with being airflocked they are much more adjustable...
i have the shallow seat and cross country panels, but thats just my preference.

Would you like to try my barefoot treeless - works so well on Cairo and Chancer and may be good for you and Benji? I find mine very comfortable and Cairo has never schooled better since I used it on him.

I can lend it to you, or you could bring Benji over to mine and try it in the school and on a hack if you wanted to.

I'd recommend a Saddle Co saddle for him... they have serge panells underneath which makes them warm and soft on the horses back, arent rigid over the shoulder like a 'normal' saddle and are fully adjustable as your horse grows/changes shape.. Best of all the settle and mould to the horses back, giving them an individual fit.

They come in all shapes and sizes, can be fully synthetic or full leather but the most popular ones (like mine) are leather on all the panels you can see and synthetic on the ones you cant...

They are also very lightweight... I love them and have a event one in the post to me as I type...!

Brand new they are £525 or so and second hand about £200-300.
