As I mentioned on my post the other day, I really have to get a saddle fitter out asap, but would like to get some ideas of what saddles are decent and might be suitable...

My favourite saddle right now is the Vega Dressage Special http://www.amerigosaddles.ch/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=51&Itemid=74 but bit worried that it can't be adjusted? Horse is still only 5 and so I'm aware that he can still change shape quite a bit and will continue to change throughout the year anyway...

How much of an issue is having a saddle that is a set width? Is it better just to look at saddles with changeable gullets?

Last but not least - treeless saddles? good, bad, which ones?

For a youngster id get an adjustable one until horse has filled out. the isabell werth wintecs are really good, thorogood also do a dressage saddle. if u want leather i think GFS now do an adjustable or WOW saddles but i have never heard very good reports on WOWs.
Amerigo saddles are nice but it just depends on the fit to your horse. I wouldnt set your mind on one particular saddle as horse may not go well / fit well with it

Oh, I know I can't set my heart on one saddle when it might not fit the horse - but I do think it has to fit the rider as well as the horse

Which wont be fun as I have worse conformation than the horse xP

Not too keen on synthetic saddles, and don't think bates is an option as the saddle he has that doesn't fit is a bates

Having a look at the GFS saddles now...

Thanks!

Check with an Amerigo fitter as to whether the vega can be adjusted or not. I bought the more expensive Amerigo for my 3 year old specifically as it CAN be adjusted as a young horse changes shape. They told me as long as the tree is the correct shape and model for the horses back, then the width could be adjusted as the horse develops.

I agree you should try lots of different saddles as long as it doesn't get too costly. I loved my Amerigo but different things suit different people

I will do just that!

I do love that particular saddle as I did sit in one at the tack shop and it was just so comfortable! My main issue is that I have quite long thighs so I look quite peculiar on any dressage saddle, but at least with it having only thigh blocks rather than knee blocks I have more leg room!

eep, don't mention costs... I have no idea where I'm going to get the money anyway but needs must I guess... :/

Make sure you get an Amerigo fitter out to try different models as your horses back shape will really determine the model you go for. All the Amerigos I have sat on have been fab. They are very comfy to hack out in as well as school in. Also get the fitter to bring saddles with differing lengths of flap. They do have longer ones! They should measure your legs to see what will suit best as well as trying them - I too have long thighs but I was ok with the normal size flap (I am 5'8). Good luck!
