Hello, I've just joined the H&H forum in the hope for some advice.
I have a thoroughbred which has muscle wastage on one side of his shoulder due to compensating from a hind limb injury....however I'm really struggling to get a saddle to fit him.

I looking to purchase a new one...again, but I'm really undecided of what saddle to buy. i.e. Make, model,
I'm really looking for a gp/jump.

Can anyone help? Or anyone got any tips? 😁🐎

You need a good saddle fitter to help with this, with the muscle wastage the saddle will need to be fitted to the better side and have appropriate padding that can be taken away gradually on the weak side until he has muscled up evenly, getting the fitting wrong now may mean he is unable to build back up properly.
As for make a good saddler will bring out a selection for you to try, I would look for a stop gap one as he may well change dramatically if the injury has now been sorted and his back starts to be used properly so his topline builds up, if you haven't already done so get a decent physio involved as well, they should really help get the wasted area working properly again which may be difficult if you are just relying on exercising him to sort it out.

As BP says, a saddle fitter. However you could also look into a Suberpad underneath whatever you go with. I found it did wonders for an older CB with muscle wastage. Worth a look at their website at least.

These are the words of truth, could not have put it better.
My new Clydesdale horse has muscle wastage on one side. My fitter has sold me a t4 which he has fitted to my horse as a stop gap. He has fitted wide and padded to give the horse time to develop , while not stopping the further development of the OK side. He has been out twice, once to a lesson to see me really ride and him and my instructor worked together to get the fit. He is on standby to come out and see me whenever I think it's wrong. I did consider marrying him, but I think the husband would be upset........;)

You have found an excellent fitter, something that seems fairly rare judging by the many threads on here, no wonder you considered marrying him he sounds like a gem worth keeping hold of!!

Wow! Thank you for all the replies!!
He is currently undergoing physio but it's exactly true...trying to get a decent saddler or at least one that replies it so difficult. I've currently got a GFS Monarch but I just dont think its the right sort of saddle for him.

Morning, I'm based in South Wales but I'm willing to travel. I'm just desperate to get it right for him now. It's so difficult to find the right person.

Bob Bloxham is a master saddler based in Bridgwater (he's on the saddlers webpage), I had a nightmare some people were 8-10 weeks and others didn't have good reputations, my usual one that I thought was good isn't compared to Bob! He was in the forces and a saddle fitter there, really good x

I would have a look at Solution Smart saddles. They'll be able to fit perfectly and more important change the fit easily as your horse muscles up again.

There is a thread on here about Solution saddles, worth doing a search.

I have a Solution which is padded appropriately for my mare and can be changed as she changes shape. Prior to that she had had 4 different saddles in as many years. They are expensive but worth e very penny, IMO.
