Could anyone recommend a safe way to enclose round bales of hay? One of the ponies is only 2. The bales would be going in a (somewhat muddy) hardstanding area. Thanks!

I have a bale buddy, which is ok but when they get to the bottom of it they start interfering with the hay so I have a sheep ring feeder round that too.

You also get mesh bale buddies like a giant haynet but they can't be shod with that.

The tombstone ring feeders are considered to be one of the safest for horses, the fact that it is aimed at equines means that the price is higher than it should be in my opinion.

Tyres can be so dangerous. Horses do get stuck in them and in some cases die.

I have a sheep feeder with extra mesh to stop them putting their legs through the bars.

The grey was a two year old in the photo.

If you can get a feeder like the one in this picture, grab it with both hands. The sheep and cattle men do not like them but they are great for horses. Just make sure the bars are not so far apart that a foal could get it's head caught. I bought two from a neighbour for £15 each, then spent an afternoon with the welder mofifyiing them to make them safe. I've had them for years.
