Safe or not - single boxes

hiya,
i am thinkingf about buying a single horse box for my 15.1hh huge irish cob and i have this awful feeling when the box is in tow it will tip, i don't know why i think this she travells so quite.
but what do you think ...?

I think a single only makes sense if you are really restricted for weight with your towing vehicle, and even then it isn't a huge difference (130 kg or so).
I think there might be a limited resale market if you ever to want to sell it.
 
Wasnt there talk a while back about banning the single trailers over safety issues? I cant remember the ins and outs but I have to say they dont look that good and I wouldnt want to travel anything big in one.
 
never really seen much point in buying a single trailer...??

i wouldn't buy one or use one.
 
I don't really really thik they are safe as they don't have a wide load base. i.e they are taller than wide, so may tip.


Also I think the price between a double and a single is minimal. You would probably be better buying a double for re-sale value.
 
I think they're a bad idea. Agree with Kudu - they're too upright. Would hate a horse to fall in it as there's not much room and I think they'd be less secure feeling to tow. I think they are quite hard to come by because they're aren't very popular.

I personally would only ever buy a double. I usually only ever take 1 horse places however the other side of the partition is very useful for putting things like buckets / hay bale for haynets etc.! Plus I know when I come to re-sell it, it should be easy as most people want a double.
 
I have a single horse Cheval Liberte - due to weight restrictions on a post 97 license.

I really like this trailer and have found that the 3 horses I have travelled in it prefer it to the double IW which they also travel in.

This is a mare and foal trailer so not upright and narrow like the old rice single trailers. The horses have more room than in a 1/2 of the double. I have travelled a 14.2 pony in it, 15.2 elderly TB & a 16hh heavyweight cob! The old TB's owner was very pleased at the way she travelled in the trailer as normally she would loose her balance and move around a lot. Last weekend the cob ended up coming home in my trailer rather than his owners double IW as he refused to get in it.

I certainly agree that the old singles are very narrow and do not appear very stable but the modern mare and foal trailers - like CL & IW are very nice.
