Safe woodcare products

I'm currently post and railing the field (well, my son's doing most of it . . . ) and want to put some sort of wood care product on it. We've looked at Cuprinol and Dulux Woodcare etc and they all say "safe around pets and children" but are they ok for horses, given that horses have that charming habit of chewing wood . . . Are they safe or has anyone any suggestions?

you can get wood tht is tanilised, so already treated, otherwise id be tempted to just get a creasote substitute, its tends to put em off chewing cos its so smelly

Thanks but I have to say I don't like creosote/creosote substitute - the smell is revolting and it is (according to its data sheet)- hazardous/toxic and dangerous to the environment. That's why I've been looking at Cuprinol etc - I also want something that's green (as in colour)

the tanillised timber with the green tinge has a salty taste and the horses like it.
i have used the creosote substitute but it does vary in quality in different shops.
countrywide`s brand is good.
